Iheanacho: 9 - I think he'd be the best signing this season.

Maguire: 7 - He is a good defender but it wasn't a neccessary since we have two GREAT defenders (Huth & Morgan) with a good backup (benalouane).

Jakupovic: 6 - Just a good backup.

Iborra: 5 - I think we need a different type of a midfielder ... we need a midfielder who can drive the team forward (agile with good dribbling skills and fast turns/moves) {I think he is called talisman in some video games}

Did you watch the last season? Genuine question.

  • Maguire - Quite refreshing for us to see a CB comfortable on the ball, his tendency to bring the ball out of defence means we need a CM or FB to drop back, there was a few times against BMG where he was well out of position in a way Sol Bamba was, we still looked vulnerable from set-pieces too. Promising... as long as we cover his runs - the jury is still out
  • Juk - Looks better than RBZ but not seen enough of him yet - the jury is still out
  • Iborra - Looks a bit slow to play in our midfield, which means it's usually 2 Vs 3 so being a bit faster helps, but makes good use of the ball to keep possession, need to see that good compusre Vs being ponderous in competitive games -  the jury is still out
  • Iheanacho - Made a good run for the goal and made good use of Mahrez incredible pass, was surprised he didn't shoot though & he kinda fluffed for the ball for Vardy to score. Could be a great signing but just don't know yet. I know he's not played in ManCity's preseason, but to be so far behind in fitness is unforgivable, makes me wonder about his attitude - so the jury is still out.

Ask again at the mid-season mark. We've not seen enough of them.

That said, football is a "weak-link" sport - you're only as good as the worst player in your Starting XI on a given day. If we look at each signing as a potential upgrade positionally for an existing squad member, I think we did alright.

Hindsight is lovely isn't it? It was pretty obvious Slimani was meant as an upgrade on Ulloa, Musa as a replacement for Schlupp/backup for Vardy, Mendy as Drinkwater's new foil, Zieler as an upgrade and replacement on Schwarzer/Hamer, Hernandez as a versatile defender and finally Ndidi as an allround midfielder.

On paper, I thought last season's recruitments looked OK at worst.

All of them had pretty good credentials.

Ironically you think that we have brought in players to do a specific job, yet you admit that you're not sure how Iborra and Iheanacho will fit in.... ??

That's a fair point on last years signings. However, the difference I see with this year's signings is that they are of a higher quality. Other than Slim I don't think any of last signings was bought to take places of others.

I didn't say I don't see how Iborra or Iheanacho will fit in. With Iborra I said it depends on how he takes to the Premiership,

He's talented but comes from a league where Skill is used over Brawn. Not quite the same in the Premiership, where it's quite physical. Hernandez was a good player but didn't like the physicality of the Premiership.

  Ihenacho I think is a great player from the little I've seen of him. But how are going to use him, are we going to play him alongside Vardy or behind him in the Okazaki role. Or even up top on his own.

Personally, I'd like to see him play alongside Vardy with Lawrence behind them. They would terrorize defenders with their speed and directness.
