Annoys me how fickle people are on here.

Regardless of whether or not they've shown it in 9 games, Everton's summer recruitment was, largely, seriously impressive.

Davy Klaassen - Captain of the side that reached the Europa League final- Still very young, accomplished a lot in the game already.

Wayne Rooney - Every mid table club in the league would have had him in a heartbeat. Considering he was free, too.

Jordan Pickford - Will undoubtedly become England's number 1. Immense talent.

Gylfi Sigurdsson - Probably over spent but they still got a proven Premier League talent in that will chip in with goals and assists.

Michael Keane - One of England's first choice centre halves right now. Still young and they got him for a good price.

Sandro Ramirez - Outscored Neymar in La Liga last season - Only 22.

Their only cock up (undoubtedly a big one) is that they couldn't get a striker in.

Exactly. Long term I'm sure that window will be viewed favourably. Just lost a top class striker that they couldn't replace.

4 of those players play in pretty much the same position though.

remember chatting to a few ev mates in the summer and a few said they were a bit concerned they were doing a post-bale spurs and just spraying money on half decent attacking players but not actually filling the obvious hole.

fees (well, the gylfi fee) aside I don’t think many people would disagree they’re good players who they’ve signed but it’s all a bit pointless when they can’t all play together and have nobody in front of them.

They are all number 10's though. They play with no width. Rooney/Sugurdsson both play same position and that's before considering Barkley.

I agree with the fees, I just think they over-spent on Sigurdsson. He went to Spurs and they got rid of him back to Swansea (well, swapped for Davies).

And poor Calvert-Lewin, who I rate highly, seemed to have the pressure of Lukaku leaving because Everton didn't get in a straight replacement.

I don't know how much Walsh/DoF has a say in targets, at Leicester Pearson came to him with areas he wanted to strengthen, he went out and found the players, then it was down to Pearson to decide if he wanted them, then the DoF does the negotiations. He was head of recruitment here not DoF.

If it's the same process at Everton, the scouting department and management need to take responsibility for not finding a replacement for Lukaku, apart from Giroud. Walsh failed to land Giroud, but is that his fault or was he never going to drop down a level? Why were there no other options on the table? Walsh got a number of signings over the line, it's not his fault they were the wrong players that Koeman wanted and now can't fit them into a team.

IF Butland can stay fit, he's above Pickford for me. Only a year or so older, too.

Good headache for the national team to have though after having to choose between Paul Robinson and Scott Carson a decade or so back.

I don't know what role Walsh had in those signings but imo there are some  good players in that list.

They definitely overspent on some of them though.

If they had gone and bought some unknown players from the French league or the lower leagues. Then Walsh may be to blame.

Is there one player on that list that wouldnt have been bought by another premier league club? Nor in my opinion.

The fault lies with whoever wanted so many midfielders and more importantly not replacing the goals they lost with Lukaku.
