If anybody hasn’t seen the film Threads, you should watch it immediately. I think it’s on YouTube or maybe Vimeo somewhere.

After watching it, you will realise it doesn’t really matter how near you are to the blast - if it kicks off, we really are all knackered.

EDIT: Just realised @leicsmac already mentioned Threads. Sorry Mac.

But really do watch it.

Yep, exactly.

Anyone who is keen on the idea of nuclear weapons as a way to win a war at the present time should have to watch that and The Day After back to back and see if they are so keen about it afterwards.

TBH if you want to know what the aftermath of a nuclear strike on the UK would be like, Threads depicted it pretty close to accurately over 20 years ago and it's not like the effects have changed in the meantime:

Whole bunch of fun.

It was set in Sheffield as I recall - I remember the fear that it instilled at the height of the cold war. 'The War Game' in many ways surpassed it because it was screened in 1965 and the documentary style made the threat tangible. I went to see it at a community college around the same time as threads and it was still considered graphic.

Cues for the next Fallout game location to be Leicester

The KP would be Diamond City, Super Mutants would overrun the Fosse Park and the Highcross would be a Raiders stronghold, The Royal would be East Bay Medical Centre and Oadby would be Quincy - occupied by gunners.

There is a cartoon film made some years ago which shows the aftermath of a nuclear attack. Th. It showed an elderly couple who hid under a kitchen table during the attack and were oblivious to the true consequences of such an event. David Bowie did the theme song.

It was called When the Wind Blows.

John Mills was the voice over.

I watched a film the other week about an error which led to America bombing Moscow. It came out about the same time as Dr Strangelove but was serious. It flopped at the cinemas because Dr Strangelove was a success. They could not get the pilots to stop the attack because they had instructions that it could be a trick. Even the president and wives were ignored.

Emerging from beneath the rubble would be Steve Walsh, dusting down his clothes and looking up to the sky shouting "Putin, is that all you've got"?

FT would have threads from survivors speculating whether Saturdays game is still going ahead and perming new line ups and formations from the surviving players Including surprise selections for Filbert, Birch and "me" (with Matty James still being generally overlooked).
