Le Tour 2018

an unbelievable stage with the weather and the elements upstaging the riders. it was the right decision to stop the race as rider safety is always paramount. Bernal is now favourite to win his first Tout De France. there is a lot of what ifs and what could have been with the stage not being completed. Allaphilippe was gone at that stage and would have lost even more time, who knows if Bernal would have gained more time on Thomas. it is always about overall victory with Ineos and as long as they have a rider win the race they won't mind too much which one.

Fairly sure there was a recent neutralisation of the stage when a team bus hit the finish barrier/advert boards and they couldn’t shift it in time

That rings a bell.

Also, lots of times there was a crash shortly before the finish where a race is neutralised but nothing like yesterday and today shortening the course.

As happy as I was with the overall result, found the overall race slightly lacking in what I was hoping for. Sad Allaphilipe was too tired to jump as it would've man a brilliant final climb if he was on form.

Feel his team isn't built for a GC charge, especially with the likes of Ineos around.

so a good tour for Ineos with the overall victory and second place

Egan Bernal becoming the first Columbian rider to win the tour and at 22 years old the youngest rider to win in over a hundred years.

Alaphillippe having as great tour and finishing fifth and with Roman Bardet winning the king of the mountains some French success.

Simon Yates winning two great mountain stages.

and with the weather and the elements causing some disruption to the race it was one of the most exciting Tour De Frances for a long time even if Ineos/Sky continuing their dominance of the overall race with seven victories in eight years with four different riders winning.

all the riders who made it to Paris after three weeks deserve immense respect even the ones we barely noticed in the coverage and worked tirelessly for the team and their teammates.

Great Britain won bronze in the team time trial mixed relay in the cycling world championships in Yorkshire. the event consisted of three male riders and three female riders with the men setting of on the first lap and it was the first time the race had been staged. a very interesting concept and must have been great to watch for the Yorkshire crowd.

A really great solo win in the women's World road race in Yorkshire by Dutch rider Annemiek Van Vleuten after a 105km breakaway. She attacked early  on and spent virtually the whole race at the front on her own and just kept increasing her advantage ad won comfortably. Van Vleuten was the rider who crashed badly while leading the road race in the Rio Olympics which looked really bad and spent months recovering. She is a fantastic bike rider, so well done Annemiek.

The sprinters race for the Green jersey is looking really interesting this year with Peter Sagan not looking as invincible as he has for the past five or six years. The race this year is being overshadowed by Covid with teams worried that any positive tests and they will be sent home. The race director has already tested positive for Covid.

It’s good to see Team Ines/sky not dominating the Tour De France for a change with Bernal struggling and has now quit the race. It’s also great to see very young riders like Pogacer and Hirchi doing so well. This year seems a much more relatively open race for all the classifications.
