Le Tour 2018

Recommended Posts

Really great stage for Ineos putting time in to some of their rivals on what looked a pretty mundane stage. it just shows you have to be alert all the time because of cross winds you could lose chunks of time and ultimately lose the tour. that is why you have to be alert and Ineos and riders like Peter Sagan instinctively know when cross winds could split the peleton and are always alert to the dangers.

Really good stage win from Simon Yates who has now won stages at all three grand tours, the Giro, the Vuelta and now the tour. Chris Froome has also been awarded the 2011 Vuelta Espana after the winner was found to have doped. Chris Froome now has seven grand tour victories.

This year is looking to be interesting; today is potentially a huge stage.

if Allaphilippe holds his own in the time trial against Thomas, then we could be in for a mega battle on the mountains to come.

He beats Thomas by 14 seconds, he's looking incredibly strong so far. Time will tell whether he can last this for 3 weeks or whether in the mountains Thomas can claw back time.

Another great mountain stage win for Simon Yates, while Thomas gained some time back on Allaphilippe. Pinot certainly looked the best of the overall favourites.

This years race looks pretty open with a number of riders still in contention.

looking forward to the battle in the Alps which will sort out the podium places.

Tony Martin and Luke Rowe kicked out for what looked like quite a small incident. If anything, Rowe was hard done by, guess we'll see in the next day or so what the reasoning was.

Seems like it wasn't much more than a little coming together for which both said sorry afterwards.

Cynics have said they ride for rival teams to the French riders..

You can guess the rest !

The cynic in me thought the same. Convenient the 2 teams fighting the best placed French riders were removed straight away.

Was it done to weaken Ineos because the french do not want another Ineos/sky victory

The cynic in me says yes.

The incident wasn't bad, but didn't impact anyone else and both had made up come the end of the race.

A warning and a fine would've been better suited.

Will JA finally crack tomorrow..?

The same comment could have been written a week ago -it perhps was as I haven't looked back. With a lead of 1-30, he ought to be able to hang on; it's his to lose now. There aren't the the downhill sections over final 2 mountain stages like there were today, which does work against him, but nevertheless even at the top of the Galibier today his lead was substantial. For Team Ineos, it was perhaps unfortunate Thomas tried to make a break to get towards Bernal, as that helped JA, certainly more than his tem-mate Bernal.

It really has been a terrific Tour this year

When was the last time a tour stage  postponed ?

Shame for the race but safety does come first ..

I know a few years back somebody threw loads of pins into the road making most of the riders suffer punctures but not sure if it was neautralised or not.

Cant blame them for today, that snow storm looked mental and the foot of the climb absolute carnage

Fairly sure there was a recent neutralisation of the stage when a team bus hit the finish barrier/advert boards and they couldn’t shift it in time
