Are they still doing that govt scheme where they pay a large chunk of your new boiler? We had one in our old house about 4/5 years ago.

Not an expert Webbo  … but think this only applies to pensioners or low income people … no offence meant if you fall into one of those categories .

Anyway got a guy coming for a look on Monday.

I can PM you the number of the guy that’s just fitted ours. Installed a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 25i, which was about £800. I don’t know how big your house is, you may need a more powerful one as we live in a 2 bed flat. What boiler do you have at the minute?

Yes..please … three bedroomed semi bought new in 2003 … £800 sounds a good price and Worcester boilers are meant to be good.

PM’d. The £800 was for the boiler only. I rent so I don’t know the labour costs. Very decent tradesman by all accounts.

I work for the countries leading boiler installers and all I’ll say is, make sure you go with Worcester. Do you have a combi? If so, I’d go with at least a 25i. If you also have a shower which works off the boiler I’d go with the 30i for better hot water pressure. Generally you won’t need a bigger boiler than that. If you have any other questions feel free to drop me a DM so you don’t get ripped off. ??

Thanks for the tips guys … as said above got a bloke coming round after work tomorrow see what he says.

Anyway finding cold showers quite invigorating … don't think I'd be saying that if it packed in January though.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. First thing to check is if it just needs repressurising, which you can do yourself in about 30 seconds. Check the pressure dial - is it below 1 bar?

EDIT: Assuming you haven't checked this already.

I researched prices and specs for a new boiler for the bowls club of which I'm a member.  As has already been advised Worcester came out as the top rated boiler, it was also one of the most expensive.  Another cheaper make which appeared to have a reasonable reputation was Glow Worm, which may be worth your consideration.

I found a few years ago that many boiler installers aren't as independent as you may think - some boiler manufacturers pay them a commission for each of their boilers they install.  So it's worth getting more than one opinion as to the best boiler for you.

The other thing you must check is that the person installing the boiler is a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.  Your boiler guarantee would be invalid if this requirement is not met.  There have been instances of 'sharp practice' where an unqualified person fits the boiler and then gets a Gas Safe Registered Engineer to sign it off - this is illegal.  If you get a formal quote for a boiler installation it only takes a few minutes on the net to check if the person is qualified.

Bloke came round and that was the problem apparently …. saves me a few bob ( for the time being anyway ) and hot water again … yippee.

Anyway thanks again for the tips guys.
