Squad List January 2019

Leicester City’s Premier League squad list is no longer full to the brim.

Following the conclusion of the January transfer window, City have submitted an updated squad list to the Premier League and it is three short of the 25-name maximum.

Back in September, when City named their squad for the first half of the season, they used up all 25 places, with no space for Andy King, Yohan Benalouane or Callum Elder. Those three have now left the club, either on loan or permanently.

Vicente Iborra, Adrien Silva and Fousseni Diabate also departed last month, but their places in the squad have not been filled.

City’s two January incomings, Harvey Barnes, back from his West Brom spell, and Youri Tielemans, on a loan deal from Monaco until the end of the season, were both born in 1997 and so are classed as under-21 players.

But Claude Puel has no plans to fill his three spare spaces with any free agents. If City are short of players, the manager has said he will turn to the club’s academy.

Among the 22 players City have named, there is an impressive 12 home-grown stars, five more than the minimum.

WoW! that is very impressive, especially when you look at the likes of Chelsea where it was rumoured one of the main reason they took Drinkwater was to just reach their quota.

They could have done that for a lot less than $35M though no?

Yes ofc, but with them looking to buy in that position regardless, the fact he was home grown must have had some influence.

Really highlights what a huge recruitment job will be required in the summer. With Fuchs, Simpson and Okazaki pretty certain to all go, Silva and Slimani to still move on plus likely departures like Maguire we are going to need quite few players. It is great to see young players given a chance but we really are going to need some quality experienced pros to help them out.

FT raffle for the remaining places? If Chelsea at home is a dead rubber who knows...one of fazzyfoxes infamous scissor kicks could grace the professional game after all...I've not given up hope....I've got the full kit and everything (who shouted w****r?)

I thought Elliot Moore defender, was still out on loan to OH.

Is he back??

The squad with EOS run in,is more than adequate to pick up points, and see which youngsters can still develope.

some posters have downers,on some of our young players, but I will find it interesting how they handle themselves within the club, and with their

playing opportunities....

Too many posters showing OTT  aggression,disapointment/deep frustration I could understand, but A lot of it has turned it into some sort of rabid-viral-support.

the booing has been been at the wrong time....On the videoed outburst from Vardy,I have another interpretation...knobheads was against the fans who were booing...(just a thought also out of frustration)....!!

I am  always the optimist and happy clapper...which I believe with our history 90%  of our hardened fans are..!!

Most of our results have always ran into the negative, the winning of the lower leagues,is was always a means!!!

But also once in the holy-grail of the PL, a needed rebuild has a few seasons of riding also those similar means.

We don't have that fall back of the L'pool/Spurs/Chelseas where higher quality of players for various reasons are a norm.

the club, not Puel alone have taken on a project, the first major step actually scuttled before Puels Tenure,by abysmal and or

just surprising mis-hits,on players like Slimani ,Iborra and especially Silva!!!  Puel began with a club, sitting on a massive minus,on

All fronts...repeat..All fronts. Only plus...a potential( not proven) bunch of young players, and a questionable mix of previous title-winners..

plus a crumbling defence, with not a new CB in site....

A defence backline, can take years to create..in 18 months,or to be fair(other things to do and qualify)  12 months he has found a defence, with

the backing but now to be phased out Simpson ,Fuchs & Morgan. In Evans/Maguire/Chilwell/Amartey/Soyuncu/Ricardo/the future Benkovic

that in itself,no matter what forms of negativity one want to dig out,is a top achievement that has got lost among the insisent  hate-crusades.

The non existent midfield...is still a quandry...Mendy became a rekindled and trusty find, who since the turn of the year,as still played well, but

has made big mistakes leading to our gameday demise..The Bline, until Ricardos failure this weekend were not responsible for the goals-against

Column!!

The midfield,Puel started with Mendy..+points, but found Ndidi our go to trusted middleman  off form, and a real basic passing problem.

tried Iborra +Silva ,but just didn't for their age and experience bring any advantages when asked to improve and up our quality,so Puel went

back to not the youth but still younger players....decision made!!! Maddison, needing time, but is slowly proving his potential!!!

The attack...This season.with midfield creating more chances  Vardy..not converting ,as before,Nacho an expected plus and high potential just

having a miserable season...All our Wbacks having good games, good moments, but terribly inconsistent...!!! Themselves not converting good created

Chances....

like many I don't enjoy, these very average performances...but this squad, with a couple more permanent additions and some more outsourcing,is not

far off in giving us a great future, don't ruin it now because of 12 months of mixed displays, and frustrating periods...

Not just Puel, but any manager needs better support patience, and 2-3 seasons. Moreover understanding of present club and squad problems,

and understanding the bigger, not short term picture...

I have never overrated our Squad of individual players, but I have never given young potential players ultimatums on when they should be the finished article.

That said I would not argue it the club ditches. Players X or Y.....We are far away as a club a finished PL product. The title didn't upgrade is to a consistent

top 6-8 side!!  There was always work to be done.....Now we are in the last 10 years in our biggest highest rebuild development period,it takes 1 season

to implode and fall into long empty era,but it takes years of regular frustration to rebuild and only hopefully to become that long permanent fixture in the PL,

Only a few teams have managed that....We are just the next team on the block attempting that long haul holy grail!!!

So my suggestion..support the team through thick and thin, because the team is being built on youth, who still have to find their way....critic is so easy, and

so easily kidnapped from media wanna-bes,It's hard to support your team on bad days, but keep the whole picture in mind!!!

Although Puel has said he has no, "plans" to fill the remaining 3 spaces in the squad with Free Agents, I wonder if that applies to Ali Reghba.  There was speculation that he has been released by Bohemians and is a Free Agent, but this hasn't been confirmed officially.  If he is, we didn't need to sign him in the Window.
