davieG Posted 23 May 2019 Posted 23 May 2019 New rule change which is set to force goalkeepers to play OUTFIELD next season Sin bins are set to be introduced from the fifth step of non-league downwards from the start of next season ByJames WhalingSports Journalist 11:40, 23 MAY 2019 SPORT A new rule change next season is set to lead to goalkeepers playing outfield - and vice versa. It was announced earlier this year that sin bins will be introduced from the fifth step of non-league downwards in place of yellow cards for dissent. And now more details have emerged of how the rule will be carried out if it applies to a goalkeeper. Regulations say: "In the case of a Goalkeeper being Sin Binned, an outfield player must take over his position for the ten minute period. "On completing his/her Sin Bin period, the Goalkeeper must re-enter the field of play as an outfield player, until which time there is a stoppage in play enabling him to change position." Players will be shown a yellow card when they are sent to the sin bin In sending a player to the sin bin, the referee will show a yellow card and point to the touchline, instructing them to take 10 minutes out of the game. For the temporary period, the player's team will be down to 10 men. The referee will call the player back on to the pitch while play is going on, similarly to if a player has received treatment for an injury. Yellow cards for dissent will be used in the totting up process and contribute to bans - but the same player being sin binned twice will not result in their side being permanently reduced to 10 men. While the player in question will not be able to re-enter the field of play, their manager will be permitted to replace him with a substitute upon the expiry of his 10-minute punishment. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/new-rule-change-set-force-16188217
Guest Manini Posted 23 May 2019 Posted 23 May 2019 We’ve got this in our Sunday league next year. Bit of a joke that the dinosaurs in our league won’t vote for roll on roll off subs but they’ll happily stick shit like this in.
AyewJoking Posted 23 May 2019 Posted 23 May 2019 Why are they introducing this so far down the footballing ladder? Because its a joke??
Buzzell Posted 23 May 2019 Posted 23 May 2019 Next thing you know we will be kicking an egg instead of a ball.
StanSP Posted 24 May 2019 Posted 24 May 2019 Would be fine if they could just come back on as normal. I don't get the logic of making the goalkeeper HAVE to come back on to an outfield position if he gets sinbinned. Just let him come back on in goal?
CosbehFox Posted 24 May 2019 Posted 24 May 2019 The ref won't utilise it after the first month - be so difficult to keep track

I guess its so they wouldn't have to stop play to allow keeper to get himself ready to go in goal but then I don't know why they can't just say a player can't come on after a sin bin until the ball is out of play. I think the idea of sin bin could be a good thing for certain offences where a red card seems overly harsh. Not sure about dissent, be interesting to see what they define as 'dissent'.

Just let the keeper stay on and an outfield player has to serve the 10 minute sin bin. Same happens in ice hockey, goalkeeper 2 min suspension is sat out by one of the other players on the ice.
KrefelderFox666 Posted 24 May 2019 Posted 24 May 2019 I am all for sin bins for serious foul play that doesn't warrant a red card (e.g. a clear obstruction to a counter attack). Maybe players will stop taking ridiculous yellow cards because they can.
Innovindil Posted 24 May 2019 Posted 24 May 2019 I like the idea. Removes this tactical yellow card on counter attacks from the game. And actually punishes players for being dirty cvnts. How many times have we seen refs choke a second yellow back because they couldn't handle the pressure. Starting lower down the leagues is the first step in getting this higher up.
Jattdogg Posted 24 May 2019 Posted 24 May 2019 Sin bin is a great idea but dont like how they are implementing the rules. Hopefully they will change/massage the rules as they see it in action.
