jaylcfc94 Posted 24 August 2019 Posted 24 August 2019 I’d say Maddison is a shoe in for the seniors with 2 assists in 3 games. Are Hamza and Barnes still eligible for the Under 21s as they are both 21 now?

That’s true, I would say he could get instead of Dier though. I don’t know if he’s been injured but he’s out of favour at Spurs

Definitely has more of an impact on a game than Rice, really don’t understand the hype around him? Rice is a year younger and has played 3 x the amount of games as Hamza. I do think he’s been elevated a little bit because of his Ireland involvement though

This is wrong. 2021 European Championships is 1998 born or later - Barnes and Choudhury both 1997. Rice, Mount, Alexander-Arnold, Hudson-Odoi, Sancho, Foden - they're all eligible. Our two, no.

They still may be included for friendly games but Boothroyd is probably looking to build a squad for the 2021 Euros and Hamza and Barnes aren’t eligible

It is Boothroyd we are talking about - one of the most inept managers around and how he holds a position like that with arguably our greatest young players is a joke

Guest An Sionnach Posted 24 August 2019 Posted 24 August 2019 Be careful what you wish for , international football can often ruin club form .

Poznan34 Posted 24 August 2019 Posted 24 August 2019 If Hamza got capped, would he be the first England player with South Asian heritage?

Pliskin Posted 24 August 2019 Posted 24 August 2019 Hamza has to be called up. He has not put a foot wrong.

I'd like to think - as I'm sure would Hamza himself - that if he were called up by England it would be purely on merit, not to make some populist statement about the team's ethnic diversity. He had a fantastic game today in front of Southgate and is a fine fine prospect as a defensive midfielder but let's not forget he had a forgettable U21 tournament in the summer. Let's get him playing consistently well for Leicester first before he is rushed prematurely into the England side.

I'm not suggesting there is any link between Hamza's ethnicity and him getting an England call-up.
