davieG Posted 25 February 2020 Posted 25 February 2020 The annual event, now in its 20th year, is organised by Leicester CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale), and takes place from tomorrow (Wednesday, February 26) to Saturday, February 29. Here's everything you need to know about the fantastic festival: Where is it taking place? The festival will once again take place at the Haymarket Theatre in Leicester, which can be accessed via the staircase on Belgrave Gate or the lifts in the middle of the Haymarket Shopping Centre. What is this year's theme? The 20th annual festival will have the theme of '20/20 Vision', which was chosen by the branch's almost 2,000 members. The character ‘Melvin the Mole’ has been designed specifically for the event, and features on all the publicity, posters, T-shirts and festival glasses. What beers will be available? Visitors will find a selection of more than 200 real ales in cask and KeyKeg, with a range of beer styles available - including stouts, golden ales, IPAs, bitters and porters. The 'LocAle' bar features beers from local breweries, with Leicestershire representatives including Anstey Ale Brewery (Darkroom, Tropical One and Skinny Pale); Belvoir (Dark Horse Mild, Star); Buswells Brewery (Landlady); Charnwood (Blue Fox, Salvation); Dow Bridge (Acris); Elliswood (Royal Standard) and Framework (Hindsight, Coffee Vanilla Stout, Citra Comet NEPA, Foxpaw). Other county breweries taking part include Hoskins (Green & Gold); Langton (Rainbow Bridge); Leatherbritches (Ashbourne IPA, Bohemian Dark Export, Candy Orange IPA); Market Bosworth (HIPA Warrior Smash, Marmalade IPA, Best Bitter); Parish (Bonce Blower, Farm Gold) Pig Pub Brewing Co (Mosaic); Round Corner (Notorious Hooligan, Use It Or Lose It); Tollgate (California Steam); West End (Target, West Coast). Rutland's Grainstore will also be providing its Red Kite, Ten Fifty and Rutland Panther beers. Main festival supporter, Everards of Leicestershire, will return with its pop up pub, serving five Everards ales, including their much loved Tiger copper ale, Golden Hop, a zesty and refreshing ale with a bold hop flavour and Tighthead, a rugby inspired ruby beer, with roasted and caramel flavours. Will there be any other drinks? Returning to the event will be The Travelling Juniper Berries speciality gin and Prosecco bar, provided by The Black Horse at Aylestone, featuring around 30 gins, many from local independent producers. Plus, there will be 42 real ciders and perries. What food will be available? The food stall will see the return of the popular scotch eggs from last year and will also feature sausage rolls and local pork pies. Other snacks will be available. The curry stall will have related snacks available and a street food twist. Will there be any entertainment? Yes - there are due to be performances from local morris dancing groups. Leicester Morrismen are set to perform on Wednesday and Anstey Morrismen on Saturday. What time is it on? On Wednesday, it will be open from 5pm to 11pm, on Thursday and Friday, it will be open from 11am to 11pm, and on Saturday it will be open from 11am to 10pm. Last admission will be one hour before closing. How much does entry cost? Admission is £5 (CAMRA members £2) with free admission to all after 5pm on Saturday. A £15 package including admission, a festival glass and £7 of beer token cards will be available to be purchased at the door (CAMRA members receive £10 of beer tokens). Glass and unused tokens will be refundable. https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/whats-on/food-drink/leicester-beer-festival-2020-everything-3880338
Rocket-Ron Posted 25 February 2020 Posted 25 February 2020 I'll be there Friday choosing the worst tasting beers ever. Do enjoy the cider section though.
SemperEadem Posted 25 February 2020 Posted 25 February 2020 Not looking likely that I will be able to make it down this year. I see they have kept it at the Haymarket, I did read a good few saying that they felt that was a poor venue for a festival.

KingsX Posted 26 February 2020 Posted 26 February 2020 It’s interesting to see so many American styles (and even beer names) on that list. We are doing to your ale what you did to our music. Taking your stuff, giving it some attractive tweaks, and selling it back to you. We have our big craft beer festival coming up as well. https://ohiocraftbeer.org/winter-warmer-fest/ (scroll down for the list if you are a beer geek) One big difference is the booze factor. Most of what I try at the Winter Warmer will be between 8 and 12 percent alcohol. Twice that of the beers on the Leicester Festival list. (Fortunately the city rapid transit gets me there and home.)

TiffToff88 Posted 28 February 2020 Posted 28 February 2020 I'm here right now and it's nice to see it busier than previous years. On my second beer now and so far both have been winners!
