Such a shame, they'll be back though with a phoenix club no doubt in the future.

RIP Macclesfield Town...

 

My old man and his family are from Macc. Moved to the East Midlands in the early 70's to find work and he'd already developed a love of Leicester due to the attractive football we played at the time.

 

He used to take me to watch Macc one week in the old Northern Premier Vauxhall Conference and to Filbert Street the next throughout the 80's and early 90's.

 

A sad day for football and the local community. Something's not right when you've got Gareth Bale sat on his arse on £500k a week.

 

They won't be the last to go either.

Used to date a girl from Macc who lived within a stone's throw from the ground.

 

She was crazy but have looked out for their results since.

 

Horrible to see this happening to another old club.

Went on a whim to the match when they drew with Cambridge to stay in League Two in 2019, thought they'd be able to get a foothold from there and stabilise the club but it seems like it was beyond help. Something has to be done to address the growing inequality between the top and bottom divisions, as professional football in League Two is starting to look ever more untenable.

Southend United have been given 42 days to pay off a similar amount, and nobody can say that's a club that has grown beyond its supporter base to inevitably fail.

Had a good rivalry with Macclesfield in recent years. Some good matches.
