As I understand it, he is proposing to fund the personal / healthcare element, not the residential & food etc element, so if you need to be in residential care you probably still need to fund it through your home.

Oppositional parties and virtually all newspapers, radio stations and social media will become hysterical about it when in reality not too much would change in the state pension.

 

Fagage would put a picture out of an impoverished OAP against images of immigrants drinking champagne with a statement that we can't pay pensions as all the money is being used to fund their lifestyles.

He has said exactly that. It is the care costs that will be funded, NOT 'board and lodging'.

Thing is though, the next crisis that hits us might not be so forgiving of people playing fast and loose with how much freedom they think they have.

But going back to the topic at hand, the next natural crisis might be a fair bit worse than Covid and so may not give us the luxury of not "losing our minds" and not following rules to manage it.
