Great day out at Edgbaston as per.

Couple of times in each innings where collapses could have been on the cards but both middle orders recovered and consolidated to make a game of it.

Thought we'd blown it when Sundar had Iyer ran out (expertly done by the fielder tbf).

England going from 60-0 to 80-5 was quite something. And we nearly emulated that lol

Interestingly Atkinson didn't give Root his ton.

Even though Root didn't seem to mind!

I feel like Root told him to go for it.

Feel like the Indians could've given Atkinson the single to let Root the hundred. They made it almost impossible for him to not hit boundary lol

Root a proper professional though, all about the win. Feel likes he been better in one day cricket then test cricket recently. Sort of chase that suits him down to the ground.

Looked like Root told him to finish the game before that ball

Yeah for sure. Root wasn't bothered so fair play to him.

The problem is, there's literally no one either anywhere as near as good as Joe Root, or crucially, with the same mentality. No one else has the patience to bat all day or all through an innings. God knows what will happen when he retires. Great to win and set up Lord's as the decider, but made hard work of what should have been a comfortable chase.

I've mentioned it before, Joe Root is the perfect blue print of how to build an innings.

Surely,  the England batters should be trying to emulate some of what he does, namely patience & shot selection. The basics.

Obviously Joe is a phenomenon, so l don't expect players to be transformed overnight, but it seems some are so fixated with the 'but, that's the way l play', attitude after getting out playing a rash shot.

Look at Will Jacks, how he got out and Joe's reaction. It said it all. He was really pissed off. What are you taking risks like that just bat through and win the game. If Atkinson had gone straight the way we would have been in real trouble because Jacks, who was in and set, threw his wicket away.

I still think arrogance plays a large part with some, Brook being a prime example. Don't get me wrong, he is an amazing talent & people go on about his batting average at Test level, as if it gives him a license to play in a reckless way.

I don’t think he should be the next Test captain until he can show more he's responsible on & off the pitch. Plus, being skipper over all 3 formats is too much anyway.

I don't think he's Test captaincy material either - the same way that KP wasn't.

But he is one guy in the team that I would back to just play "his way" because I honestly believe if you try to put fetters on him you get a lesser player - again, the same as with someone like KP.

I totally understand what you're saying.

I just wish that when a game is on a knife edge & Brook is going well, he has a tendency to do something silly & put us under pressure by getting out. Sometimes, just see it through & be a hero that way.

He's an incredible talent & has a long future in the game. I just think playing a game situation a bit better at times, even being a bit vanilla is so important if the match requires it.

Sir Garfield Sobers has died aged 89.

One of the true greats of the game.

Such a legend

It's a boring debate but genuinely reckon he's number one for "which historical player would have gone best in the T20 era?"
