Exactly. The only options for captain are Brook or Root really. Surely though they should be looking to the future and go with Brook and give him the Pakistan series to settle in. 

If Brook is the man for the Ashes next year, then he needs the Pakistan series or at the very least the South Africa tour to find his feet. There's a few people who could captain the white ball teams, but the Test side and the Ashes has to be a priority in my opinion.

It's been a real benefit of the competition. Counties are reconnecting with their fans away from their headquarters.

Great irony that the closed shop of the 100 means only 8 cities get action while the Metro Bank gets chance to take professional cricket deeper across the country, proper outreach

Hussain bemoaning what the Hundred has seemingly become. The lack of authenticity, lack of tribal attachment which is what usually happens in sport in this country, saying the Hundred doesn't have it and it's basically all manufactured.

 

I don't know if he's been this critical of it before but he's still happy to turn up for Sky and take his wage commentating on it and being a pundit. I suppose it's a positive he is being critical of it whilst on air...

Sport is built on trabilism, tradition and history. The Hundred is a franchise event which has none of those.

 

Nasser is an intelligent bloke and nowhere near the most rabid of the Hundred enthusiasts but still needed to call it out earlier.

I watch my local Minor County in the summer and the place has an outground feel. Something really good about watching cricket near to the boundary.

I don’t know what any of them really expected though?  He’s had to push it because Sky have backed it massively, but now he’s seen it for what it is. 
 

The ECB thought it would be an equal to the IPL. Problem is there really isn’t that kind of support and exposure over here. Let alone the fact that you’ve got supporters of 10 counties that if they’re real fans, haven’t got a team to support that feels authentic. How could I for example go and support my local 100 team? It’s Notts, I couldn’t do it.

Precisely what Hussain alluded to as well. He said why would people in Liverpool or other nearby towns feel happy going to Manchester Super Giants, why would anyone in Yorkshire fancy seeing Leeds if they don't feel that affiliation. 

 

ECB were so naive creating this comp. It's like they tried too hard to manufacture something that wasn't needed. They could have done more to make current competitions attractive...

I was at Trent Bridge yesterday and there was nothing at all around the ground to suggest that this was the ground of the home team. We were told The Hundred was meant to be a gateway to county cricket, but instead it's just meant once a year casual fans (nothing wrong with them, by the way) have simply stopped going to the Blast and have no idea they're meant to support for the other 11 months of the year.

 

Mind you, One Day Cup ticket sales being up and Hundred ones being down says all you need to know - you can't change teams' entire identities on a whim in England and expect people to feel a connection. 4k freebies at The Oval the other night. Desperate stuff.

The county have got it right for the ODC - kids free with any paying adult. I mean I go anyway and would pay for my lad because he enjoys it (although he’s only been blast games) but I would feel less bothered about having to leave early this Sunday because he’s finding it all a bit slower than what he’s normally used to. As well, I feel like someone whose child might be getting into it would be much more inclined to go when they’re feeling like they’re getting a bit of a value.

I haven't really followed his coaching career at all tbf, but as you say, should work well with McCullum.
