I think it's a good vindication for county cricket. At anytime we probably have 5-10 players with experience who could be called upon (although we're bizarrely conservative) whereas the Aussies and their 6 teams look very short.

They aren't short, which is what makes it so weird.

Noticed some big runs for Jennings and Bohannon in the lions tour.

Also, this south African competition is pretty fun, regular 200plus scores and plenty of English involvement. Will Jack's with an impressive century today.

Shame he’s missing the tour, hope all is well.

Makes it easier getting Bairstow and Foakes in the same team now.

Yeah, it does solve that particular dilemma, and given the way the ball is going to spit and turn out there we need Foakes playing.

Jennings should of been back in a while ago and Bohannon should also already be in the side. Unfortunately though can't see Bohannon getting a look in with the current style of play, he'll end up like James Hildreth.

This BBL game is shaping up nicely, big first innings score for Brisbane looking likely with a great innings so far by Brown. Sets up the chase nicely for Adelaide with Matthew Short and how devastating he can be and the form he's been in.

And now no Kohli for the first two Tests.

That might have an effect on the landscape.

The depth India have is crazy though, especially bringing lads in for a home series. I can't see it being too detrimental

Yeah, whoever they bring in won't be as good, but they likely will still be very good.

I guess we'll see.

Could be as many as 4 or 5... They could go old school and go for Pujara who has smashed it domestically, or go with a few up and coming youngsters. Most likely they'll have Gill at 3, Iyer to come in at 4, Rahul at 5 and then the replacement at 6, or go for one of the wicket keepers.

Have I just missed it or have we done no preparation for this test series whatsoever?

That was Steve Harmison point and he said we deserve to lose badly .

I’m glad that it’s becoming clear for the world to see what a stupid, borderline fascist banana republic India is these days under Modi.

A genuinely ridiculous situation. It's about time the cricket world woke up to this.

Unfortunately the ECB haven't got the balls to stand up to it and call the series off. Incompetence at all levels

England should at least delay the start of the series until Bashir gets his visa - which would mean scrapping the first test and maybe more.

England's team selection shouldn't be affected by a number of people behaving like tw@ts.

This is the standard for India. A friend of a friend was heading out there for a wedding in 2022, grandfather had a Pakistani Muslim name, so they cancelled his visa a week before despite originally accepting it, nothing covered by insurance so lost a good couple of grand.

Team for the first test

1. Zak Crawley
2. Ben Duckett
3. Ollie Pope
4. Joe Root
5. Jonny Bairstow
6. Ben Stokes (C)
7. Ben Foakes
8. Rehan Ahmed
9. Tom Hartley
10. Mark Wood
11. Jack Leach

Stokes fit enough to bowl?

You can guarantee it won't spin now. Bizarre to go with spinners plus Root when he could easily be the third choice spin option and have another seamer.

India only produced the spinning wickets last time because they lost the first test.
