Well, this is going one of two ways:

- they make 500+ by lunchtime on day 3, we're bowled out before close on that day, innings defeat

- we get off to a flier tomorrow, somehow bowl them out for around parity, one innings shootout

I'll let everyone else decide which they think is more likely.

Well, shit.

First time I've caught any TNT coverage, no studio analysis or anything?

As expected really, just not good enough in all areas to really challenge in India. Good to see Pope get some runs, always looks a good player if he can get through his first half hour.

Seems to be one or two who dig in but generally not enough.

Apparently TNT are getting the likes of Cook and Stephen Finn in as pundits for the 2nd test .

Obviously not scored enough in that first innings but don't think the batsmen have been bad, most have got out to devent bowling. Really disappointing bowling effort though.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Dan Lawrence come in as an extra batter who can bowl if it's another spin friendly wicket next time.

Always nice to spot a Leicester shirt in the crowd.

No one has really got in and stayed in. The upper order basically rotate who is out for single figures each innings.

Really feel we need some new blood and some actual pressure on the upper order.

Bairstow hasn't been at it since his ankle op for instance.

Leech as the experienced spinner is showing nothing as well.

It's weird it's usually Matt Smith with Cook or whoever

Really good day for England, brilliant from Pope.

Shame one batter couldn't go bigger in the first innings because we'd be well on top now.

Can't see our bowlers being good enough to win the game but you never know with a bit of scoreboard pressure.

Defending anything below 150 would be futile, anything below 200 most unlikely, 250 is the 50/50 point for me.

If Pope and the tail can just hang around until lunch tomorrow, who knows?

Does show what we can do if we put our minds to it.

This team has shown time and again it's capable of taking on the very best in  conditions past England teams have found difficult. Folks are often too quick to stick the knife in.

Relieved Pope's found some form, purely because he needs to be a solid selection as he's likely the only option for the captaincy when Stokes calls it a day.

Well done to Rehan for helping see him through until the end of the day too.

One of the best innings by an Englishman abroad ever ?

I think Cook and KP in 2012, among a few others, have it beat for now, but if he manages to keep building on it tomorrow...

Fantastic effort by England. I think that's the highest 2nd innings total by an Englishman in India for Pope. He's had very good support from the lower order. Wasn't expecting to wake up to this.
