As a distraction for those, like myself, who are constantly refreshing the BR thread for news of a sacking - assuming the rumours are true and we don’t sack Rodgers until the World Cup mid season break, I think our new manager is likely to have the following players to work with while the World Cup is on:

Smithies

Thomas

Evans

Soyuncu

Justin

Ndidi

Soumare

KDH

Maddison

Barnes

Albrighton

Dakka

Vardy

Nacho

Perez

Bertrand

Have I missed anyone?

Goalkeeper (and Bertrand) aside, surely any half decent manager (Not Brendan) would be thinking that a month or so working with that group without any fixtures would enable them to develop the basis of a decent Premier League side?

Easier just to name the players who are going to the World Cup surely?

I make it only 6 if Maddison doesn’t go?

4 Belgian lads, Iversen and Ward?

Senegal and Ghana yes but the latter knocked Nigeria out in the playoffs

Thanks for that - original post duly edited.

The problem will be by that point having the basis of a decent Premier League team will not be important, as we’ll be far behind our relegation rivals and we’ll be massively low on confidence. Talking of which, do we still employ a sports psychologist?

They’ll be given at least two weeks off.

I’m beginning to think we don’t employ anybody remotely useful!

They will hardly train. Already been granted an extended break.

Well that made any misplaced optimism drain away! Doesn’t seem much point waiting until the World Cup before sacking him then?

Yeah I think they have been granted 2 weeks extended break as far as I remember.

Just checked and we play West Ham on 12th November with the next game being  Newcastle on Boxing Day - so assuming they all get 2 weeks off - a new manager would get around 4 weeks with most of our squad before they played a game?

Much better scenario then the normal international break where they’d get a few days with a handful of players. Would love to see Brendan gone sooner but at least this enforced mid season break could work in our favour if that is when he’s replaced?

Ward - yes

Castagne - yes

Amartey - yes

Mendy - yes

Tielemans - yes

Iversen - maybe

Faes - maybe

Vestergaard - maybe

Praet - maybe

As bad he’s been….James Justin was in the squad over the summer and it’s looking like Walker and James will now miss the WC.

With Southgates love of full backs he might sneak in.
