Yes it was, and many said so at the time. The reason given by Rodgers was that Albrighton wanted the move to get more first team football. Just like Schmeichel supposedly 'wanted' to go to Nice, although Schmeichel himself has since said he never wanted to leave. In recent times we seem to have prioritised kind gestures to long-term servants over hard-headed decisions about what was good for the club at the time. The worst example of this being the inclusion of Danny Ward over Daniel Iversen for our first 26 league games, apparently simply because Rodgers felt that Ward should be 'rewarded' for his long-standing service as a number 2, not because he merited it.

As time goes on, the full extent of how the club fell apart behind the scenes during Rodgers' tenure will become clear. I bet we haven't heard even half of it yet.

I agree with most of this, however Ward was playing great prior to the World Cup, and at a much higher standard than Iversen currently. Genuinely believed were it not for Wales shocking performance he’d have carried that momentum. Much like Euro ‘20 for Soyuncu, he seems to have lost confidence and Rodgers wasn’t enough of a man motivator to bring him back.

Couldn't have been easy being dropped for an ageing second choice Forest Goalkeeper

Definitely agree with this in terms of the fact that we need to move on, & I'd have Albrighton nowhere near the XI. But..

Our current 'leaders' are:

Jonny Evans: Made of papier-mache, not seen for more than 5 mins for 9 months

James Maddison: Butthurt about his mate Brendan getting the sack, deletes Twitter when people aren't singing his praises

Youri Tielemans: Head turned 18 months ago

I don't think it's a totally wild thing to suggest that the dressing room could do with some of the spirit of 2014-2016. Albrighton would maybe bring that?

Dunno really. In reality these players should see the situation they are in and not want to be involved in a relegation, but I'm past that now as they haven't seemed to care all season.

RE Maddison I thought he was our best player Saturday at Manchester City, one of the best players on the pitch in fact, but I don't see him as a leader. But you never know really do you.

I look at Evans as a leader, because he's done it all and won more than the rest of the players, but he's been relegated before as well!

I think Marc will still have future at the football club if Deano was to remain in charge beyond the summer.

He's struggling to have an impact at West Brom.

Time to move forward not backwards.

Balancing a 25 man squad is tricky, unless you are Man City and have billion quids worth of talent that can rotate seamlessly allowing you to always put out a team of fresh world class players and annoy the fvck out of fantasy football managers.

You need a few aging pros who can do a job when needed and bring experience to the dressing room. Albrighton whilst rarely a match winner would always put a shift in and do a professional job. He'd allow the others to play better so we functioned better as a team. Barnes would always play better with width on the other side, it also gave more cover to the full back.

Of course he's not the long term solution, but right now I'd rather he was here than at West Brom.

Wasn't one of those goals miles offside?

Don't think it was Sharky, but one of Mahrez's goals in his hattrick at Swansea - absolutely miles offside and it still stood because no VAR and the lino was seemingly completely blind.

From Kante's pass IIRC, iv remember watching it and thinking "there is no way he's that far clear and not gone too early"

But shhhhh, Spurs will use that as proof that everybody wanted us to win the title.
