Noticed between Leicester and Birmingham (think M6) there is a massive structure being built - presume bridge across, looks spectacular.

Yeah it's the section between Birmingham and its airport.

If you take the train from Leics to Brum, you can see the huge terminal at Nechells and subsequently the Curzon Street terminus.

Spanning the M42, I believe, not the M6 unless I've taken a wrong turn.

Sounds like it's both progressing but is an awful mess overall at the same time.

Sunak scrapping ideas for the northern parts of the country (Manchester) a few years ago for this project due to cost-cutting appears very ironic now given the current HD2 project is over-budget and other issues raised with it.

The overall cost of construction has sky rocketed since the time it started.

Fuel, steel, aggregates, wood, concrete, asphalt, anything with cement in it, everything must be 35% more expensive than when the first spade went into the ground in late 2020.

From what I’m told as well, it’s an absolute nightmare to work on. Stuff turns up and “disappears”, stuff being turned away as not needed, etc, so even project management of the site and a project on this scale is chaotic and challenging.

Every public construction takes forever it would seem even Soulsby's Market rehash is not expected to finish until March 2027, every time there's some roadworks it takes weeks if not months with all the disruption when there are no workmen onsite.

I don't see why they don't just attack these with all the manpower and machinery they can muster with finishing as quickly as possibly I get the feeling that the Chinese and Japanese take this approach.
