RVN has clearly got a better game plan than Cooper. We had some kind fixtures under Cooper and a lot of luck like Frasers red at St Mary's and K.Philips at Portman Rd.

We're in touching distance of a few teams above us. RVNs only mistake was the lineup against Wolves but he learnt from that and now Ward isn't even on the bench!

I think if RVN can get a decent RB and CB in January, we have a great chance of staying up. Need to sell 3-4 players to get the funds for the calibre we need in January.

A lot of people in here are sounding very Maddison-esque.

It’s alright playing well and losing against the bigger, better teams. They literally let us do what we wanted to, knowing full well we weren’t a threat/they were better but if we’re then gonna serve out honking performances like we did against Wolves it doesn’t matter what moral victories we gain against the likes of Man City.

Play like that and we’ll be absolutely fine though….

They looked poor. They're in a really bad way. It's one of them I could give more benefit of the doubt to if Wolves hadn't happened. At some point, we have to make up for it. Oh and they drew to Palace too.

Game went exactly how I thought it would. We'd lose to a side who even after the day are still 17th in the table from the last 10 games but it would be dressed up as if it was OK, even good in some instances. It's another result I ultimately put on the board - who've sabotaged us with this defence and a dreadful managerial appointment which means the defence we named yesterday is pretty much the best we can name.

You're right about Villa - there to be got at. But I've no doubt when we lose it'll just be a load more of these types of comments. We've got to make up for these dropped points somewhere.

You’re not wrong.
It highlights our complete lack of quality in defence, but the attack was a mixture of plain unlucky and then some wayward finishing….. we could have had three goals at least. It’s frustrating, and I think what makes it worse is that Wolves result, which was a managerial **** up in my opinion. Had we won that it would have eased the burden somewhat.

But, I think survival goes to whoever has the best window….. we’ve got to get it right, and that might include one or two gambles like Ferguson for example……

I do think survival is possible which to be fair, I didn't after Wolves, I thought we were bust. But I mean possible - rather than likely. With a good window where we plugged some of the gaps I think it's attainable. I just don't trust us to do what needs to be done.

That Wolves game is going to be the one we rue. Just a total disaster and at some point we have to make up for it if we're going to get out of this. It's why I can't be too happy with yesterday.

The Wolves game was a false test as it had the dreaded ‘new manager bounce’ perceived effect.

The Man City is also not especially relevant, as they spent most of the game standing off us due to their own current struggles and with space and time we can go toe to toe with plenty of teams.

Now as before, we struggle with being pressed, not saying we did not play well, we did, but they played their part in allowing it.

Summed up perfectly, what I was trying to suggest was the Man City performance has given me hope. Yes there are still glaring weaknesses, and we dominated the game and should have done a lot better, if we had played like that against Southampton for example and had lost, we would all be raging.

What I like though, is there’s a clear plan now, Ruud is starting to implement his style of play, we just need a decent window in January, a couple of good signings could see us right, and I think will ultimately be the difference again.

His game plan appears to be different to Cooper's, but we dont know yet if its better, unless you judging it on number of passes or something.

The last game is one of the weirdest games I have ever watched Man City were playing like a bottom three team, sitting back and relying on the counter.  They were completely devoid of confidence.  Yet despite that we still lost by 2 goals, we did look much better in terms of possession than previous games because of it though.  Sadly lacking an effective plan in the final 3rd hence not scoring.

I know we lost but have to say I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a game involving Leicester as much as I did today. We played some superb football only let down by the finishing. And the fans on the whole enjoyed it as per standing ovation at the end.

Yes, so much better than watching the dull Enzo ball last season.. Chelsea fans are not happy by all accounts ..

“Some of the worst team management I have seen in these last 3 games.

Makes barely any and late subs in the Everton games. Does the same against Fulham. Now he's forced to make wholesale changes against Ipswich and not even that works.

Play near enough the same damn team every game and make use of your 5 subs to keep the squad fresh goddammit.”

Wolves was on Ward 100%, we had more shots, possession and shots on target than Wolves, but unfortunately we had an absolute **** in goal.

RVN did what any new manager would do, he played the senior player.

At least he's dropped him from the squad after 1 start, just hope he now plays Okoli instead of Coady against Villa.

I said this in another thread, but thinks its relevant to this as well.

If Ruud has wanted to coach his style, patterns and playing out of the back, he may have felt training with Ward was his best option between Newcastle and Wolves. Jakub wasn't fully fit, and Iversen just cant do the playing out the back part. It was likely a risk that had to be taken to get us to the type of performance we ended up with against Man City. The team can go into the Villa and Fulham games with some confidence.

If you watched @StriderHiryu's latest video on blue tinted glasses, he shows some sublime build up play out from the back that we hadn't seen from a Cooper team. This has to have come from a few weeks coaching and will likely be even better when Mads comes back into the team.
