I think more than 1/3 of the ground join in. When Maddison was here, he said it was great hearing the fans singing it. Like said previously, YNWA was always sung by all teams fans but after Hillsborough, became synonymous with Liverpool and almost as a matter of respect, has not been sung by other fans since. The JB version is ideal for a crowd to sing along to.It’s been sung b6 City fans since the late 60s early 70s. I’m sure that the JB version was sung at the end of the title winning season with the squad on the version.

It was the 09/10 play off squad with Gallagher, Wayne Brown etc.

You’re right in regards to the first point mate. But you know what I mean - in terms of the fact it’s our ‘song’ that gets played out the loud speakers that the fans join in with.

YNWA is now synonymous with Liverpool. When they sung it after winning the champions league it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Would never happen with WYS in the state it is now. Maybe it’s just half of our fanbase’s refusal to sing it.

How many times have you heard away fans sing “what the fcking hell is that” to YNWA compared to WYS? Because I hear it almost every game when we’re singing it.

I listened to the podcast - it’s what made me write the post originally. The lyrics have nothing to do with the club. And the Jersey Budd rendition wasn’t sung “during the good times”. The best memory we’ve had singing it (in the Jersey Budd version) is the first time it was played in the Conference League.

And it’s been 3 years of playing it pre game, yet 2/3 of the ground still doesn’t catch on. Changing a few lines to make them more directly relatable may help. Or even add artificial fan noise the final two lines (“the whole world smiles with you” x2) so that it appears as more of an anthem as supposed to sing along in a pub in the city centre.

Regarding the Song Book programme, if the fans and the players singing that version, didn’t make the hairs on your neck tingle, then I feel sorry for you. YNWA is a song which when sung by Gerry and The Pacemakers, is an emotional fix, doesn’t need the Liverpool fans. When City fans join in with the JB version, I find it very emotional and listening to that podcast, cannot understand why you think only a third join in.

I find it crazy that people still moan about it. It's one of the few authentic parts of our stinking "matchday experience".

I find it crazy that people DO moan about it.

Where do these people sit? Even where I am in the cosy east stand surrounded by pensioners people get up and bellow it out.

"The best one-off musical moment in the history of football" regarding Nessun Dorma pre-Everton is a great quote.

I really wish we'd sing it more, and not just at the start. The singing section are always disappointed that the clappers don't join in......well sing "When you're smiling "

Look at Leeds with "Marching On Together." It's their go to, home and away and it works. They just take a small section of it. That's all we'd need to do.

It's a great series that Colin Murray and Pat Nevin have done. Stumbled upon it with the Bristol Rovers one, "Goodnight Eileen." and then the Hibs. one with "Sunshine On Leith." I wish there was a way of being able to keep the City one. Available only for the next 25 days 🫤.

By the way have a listen on YouTube to the Hibs. fans when they won the cup. Superb version of a brilliant anthem.
