Spot on. What also makes the club untrustworthy is that Alves was courted and promised the world before his newest contract was signed. Since then he’s been treated badly. Page is currently the one being courted because he’s up for a contract soon.

Tbf I thought Page actually made a material difference to the team when he came off the bench against Huddersfield, pains me to say it but Alves was anonymous.

Alves didn’t play to his best but neither did he have the luxury of BEK and Winks around him like Page did. Alves was also neither on the wing nor a proper 10 - so asked to play in a position that wasn’t to his best strengths.

He’s not taken his chance yet this season including pre-season. 
 

We are now out of the cup too. Likely to continue to get less chances unless we sell Bilal.

Alves not making the bench says a lot.

 

Think the manager saying he will get game time would be more because he has to due to the amount of games, rather than him particularly wanting to give him game time.

 

I agree he shouldnt be in our squad, but he should definitely be out on loan.

Fair point - although you would hope against League One opposition that he might have made a bit more of the chance he had. Still think there's a lot more to come from him though, and he is still only 20. Feels like he's older given how long he's been around.

I think the club have dropped the ball with Alves. I expect he’ll be off sooner or later. No way does he sign a new contract with us.

I’m not sure if I despair more about our club being badly run or our so called fans of the team coming out with tripe like this.

I thought he was good in pre season and showed a lot of quality in the limited minutes he had.

Tell me why it’s wrong? We’ve had plenty of youth players start and make the bench, maybe it’s time to admit that he’s not actually that good?

Yep. I hope the younger crop of players see through it and save themselves. 

 

As a young player it's a hard decision not to sign a new contract, because if you don't, the club won't play you or allow you out on loan. So you have to basically lose a year or more of development and exposure to potential future clubs. But, that's got to be better than the cycle the likes of Alves are currently trapped in.
