All of a comparable or younger in Monga’s case than Nelson. I rate Nelson but he’s a defender, not played in the PL, a bit injury prone (before this latest one) with a year left on his contract. Add to that he hasn’t had the PL exposure the others above have had, and honestly it’s not like he would have been a nailed on starter in L1 this season even if he had stayed here and injury free. All that taken into account, I can’t believe people think we should be expecting a fee compatible with even Monga’s. I normally agree with all of your posts but the bit re: comparing us to other League One clubs is unfair IMO. Of course you’d expect to get more money for players that only 24 months ago were about to start the season in the PL. As for Nelson, we’ve both stressed for sometime that he’s a good player with high potential and we should sell, due to him not signing a contract. However, accepting the first offer is an awful business model.

Yeah sure but this window we do seem to have taken more of a "**** it" attitude and started letting people go. I mean it's all moot because we'll never know now but I imagine the club would have let him go later in the window if we weren't getting the bids we wanted. I don't think it was ridiculous to turn down the deal at the time, it's just very shit luck that he then gets a serious injury but that could happen to anyone at any time. Bristric could arrive, smash in a brace on his debut, give us all hope then fall awkwardly and do his ACL. It wouldn't make it a stupid transfer and a terrible decision, just shit luck. 3

However, accepting the first offer is an awful business model. I’m separating whatever the supposed offer was from just what I think is a fair valuation. I get not taking a first offer. Even if we had a valuation, and a Leicester City type comes in with that offer off the bat, you’d be silly not to try for a bit more yeah. Obviously going with a counter offer way higher would be like my 3 year old trying to negotiate how many books she is read at bedtime! Although our way of conducting business is what I’d expect from a 3 year old . And we don’t know what the offer was. If it was a million upfront and add ones that might be met then yeah, again it’s fair enough. Just in terms of valuation though, I do get we are viewed differently, hence how we set the record 3 sales in the space of a week. I get that other clubs will not be able to compete with that. But I still think the £10 million price tag is going back to that 3 year old negotiations where she ends up with less than what she could originally have had due to the time spent messing around!

Not selling him for a lowball offer is intelligent, you can’t plan for injuries and as I’ve said before, the more serious it is the more likely it is he signs a new deal, as morbid as that is 3
