We all probably know of the Attenboroughs, and Show-waddywaddy.  But did you know about this pop pioneer?

Quote

In 1985, Woolley co-wrote Grace Jones' Slave to the Rhythm.[23][24] The title track was originally intended for Frankie Goes to Hollywood, but Island Records' founder, Chris Blackwell, suggested using the song for Jones. Phil Oakey was born in Hinckley (or Oadby?).

Celebrated his 71st birthday yesterday. Still going strong with the Human League, but now without the hair.

Loughborough has a strong RAF element. Johnnie Johnson has the most aerial kills of allied forces IIRC. Just read about Nicholas Alkemade, from Norfolk but moved to Lboro - survived a fall without a parachute after his bomber was shot down.

George Fox established Quakerism, Wolsey died in Leicester and the lollard preacher John Wycliffe translated the bible into English In Lutterworth so there’s an outsized religious history too.

I’ll come back to this thread, I’ll have a look for a similar list I’ve posted before
