brownfox Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 I think what ever the board do they need to act now and its looking obvious that they wont sack Levien, so they should go and get him some help. when robson was struggling at Boro he called in El Tel to giv him hand i think the board should look the same way. May be get George Graham to over look Levien im sure he can motivate even though he's been out the game for a while. Plus he would strengthen the back line. Levien is nieve ( ithink thats how you spell it) in his choice for team selection for matches he's bought the right players to the club but he just cant get them to click. Whatever the board do they should do now Sack him! or Back him! that goes for the fans aswell booing just brings on more presure for players so lets hope George Graham or someone like him experianced comes to assist. As for Sir Bob even though he's a bit of a national tresure the stress at LCFC would probably give him a heart attack! we would want to be responsible for that. heres to a good year lets hope during the summer we all think that Levien is just as good as Fergie!
Scow Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 I think if we're looking for a replacement, then we need someone with experience (That doesn't mean Bassett) We have a tradition of providing young and upcoming managers a chance (Little, McGhee, MON, Taylor, Adams, Levein) - now is the time to change direction and get us out of the mess, should Levein resign or be sacked. Now I'm struggling to think who we could realistically appoint should that situation arise. To be frank, some of the suggestions on this thread are baffling. Bobby Robson, Ray Lewington, John Gregory and so on. I'm losing the will to live.
davieG Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 Mark McGee is the top tip. The futures Marked Out - yet again
Cal Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 MON gets my vote I know he wouldnt come back but i can dream..
City Fan Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 I do think the most realistic would be Gary McAllister, he isn't in employment so wouldn't cost a thing, he has played for the club before, he is young, passionate, and a good manager.
Babylon Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 and a good manager. What are you actually basing that comment on?
Isopen Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 What are you actually basing that comment on? When Levein was appointed he had a career % matches won ratio of 40.3% (which has obviously since declined), however it still won't be as bad as McAllisters, it was 27.6% at that time & he hasn't managed since
City Fan Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 What are you actually basing that comment on? He didn't do too badly at Coventry and look what he had to work with. There's no one better who would be tempted to come to this poor excuse of a club, and I think he is the best *realistic* option.
Hitesh Posted 1 January 2006 Author Posted 1 January 2006 Brian Kerr is still unemployed. Not that i would want him to come to leicester but i reckon it will be a name that would be mentioned in the media if Levein did go.

john_lcfc Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 gary mcallisters son goes to my school and i spoke to him about 3 weeks ago and said john-" you're dad doesnt play for any team now does he" Son-"naar he cant be arsed " (jokingly) john-"so whats he going to do for the rest of his life sky sports?" son- "hes doing that pundit stuff for sky at the moment but he wants to get into managing" john"fair play see you later mate" i think he would be a decent option and i could ask his son stuff cos he dont know im a leicester fan i dont think just a footy fan. hes younger than me so id have to be discrete with my questions/conversations but hes safe levein out

And then try and speak to Gary Mac himself and see if he wants the job!
l444ry Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 When Levein was appointed he had a career % matches won ratio of 40.3% (which has obviously since declined), however it still won't be as bad as McAllisters, it was 27.6% at that time & he hasn't managed since Those statistics are hardly what they seem. At Hearts Levein could hardly fail to beat most of the sides in their league. In contrast, Coventry were in decline during McCallisters time. Therefore, I dont think the comparison is a fair one. If that was the case, does it now mean Gordon Strachan has suddenly learnt the art of winning football matches?
Hitesh Posted 1 January 2006 Author Posted 1 January 2006 Would be good to see the stats of the other managers suggested aswell!
Babylon Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 I honestly cannot believe people keep saying McCallister, the guy has done nothing to even warrant considering. Had he not played for Leicester people wouldn't think twice about him.
City Fan Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 I honestly cannot believe people keep saying McCallister, the guy has done nothing to even warrant considering. Had he not played for Leicester people wouldn't think twice about him. He's young, hungry for success, and passionate about the club. Just think of Stuart Pearce and Chris Coleman, both hungry and young managers. They have to start somewhere.

Had he not played for Leicester people wouldn't think twice about him. its true what u say but is it a gamble worth taking? bothroyd , pearce , blackwell , mcclaren had little/no experience in managing or done anything to warrent getting there jobs before going on to do fairly well
Scow Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 He's young, hungry for success, and passionate about the club. Just think of Stuart Pearce and Chris Coleman, both hungry and young managers. They have to start somewhere. That could be said for the likes of Taylor, Adams and Levein - Hungry and young managers, but simply not good enough. As for Gary McCallister, he was awful at Coventry, so no ta. Just because he's young and passionate about the club, that shouldn't make him qualified to take the job.
davieG Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 All these names people are plucking out of the air and saying "worth a gamble" etc in a rather casual way - this gamble you are talking about could well mean the death of LCFC as we know it; so worth a gamble is not good enough for me. Sure we can't have a guaranteed nailed on survival, but they have to be more than just a gamble they must have some sort of pedigree of success, preferably in this league othewise I just don't see the point in you wanting to replace Levein with them other than for changes sake, because you could argue that CL himself is " worth a gamble"

We know exactly what we would get with him. Probably not the most attractive football, but can anyone see us going down with Bassett in charge? Personally I think he would guarantee survival which has got to be our only concern - staying up is that important for the future of LCFC.
