Rincewind Posted 22 January 2006 Posted 22 January 2006 Yes, I do get it wrong as well. But Shakespear or rein did not come up as wrong. I just used the wrong versions of the words. Txt wasn't in the dictionary so I added it. Like the rest if something is readable then I don't mind. Writing in CAPITAL LETTERS is one of my pet hates and complete blocks of text with no punctuation or paragraphs. I try not to moan too much about it now cos like my other post I get pulled up for every typo that I make. Serves me right really. I love this forum. You can edit posts to make yourself look less an idiot than you already are..

Nationwider Posted 23 January 2006 Posted 23 January 2006 Poor spelling isn't a problem in my book - as long as you can get the point across. It's like mental arithmetic - it doesn't always come naturally. For me, text-speak is hard to understand and just looks messy. You effectively cut your vocabulary down to the bare bones. You may as well squeal like a chimp. What I really dislike are solid blocks of unpunctuated, unspaced text. If you can't be arsed to hit return, full-stop, or even the friggin' space-bar, I can't be bothered to read whatever slack-jawed drivel has just been vomited through the bandwidth.

cisono Posted 24 January 2006 Posted 24 January 2006 Is it partly due to the popularity of texting? And the fact that we often post quickly, without re-reading / checking over our messages?
Katy Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 Call me old fashioned but I dont actually use 'text speak' when im texting as I think it looks ugly, I think the only thing I use is 'U' sometimes instead of 'you' as for text speak on here - totally unnecessary

Don't think I've ever used it.
Lemon Harpic Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 Same here. Don't think I've ever used it. Question of the day: When texting someone of the same gender, is it ever okay to put an 'x' on the end?
Libertine Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 Question of the day: When texting someone of the same gender, is it ever okay to put an 'x' on the end? Girl to girl: Yes Boy to boy: No way, Jose.
filbertway Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 Question of the day: When texting someone of the same gender, is it ever okay to put an 'x' on the end? Only if it's a girl to girl If it male to male then its gay
IDEA OR IKEA Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 Only if it's a girl to girl If it male to male then its gay you missed the word 'super' from that last word
Katy Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 I put 'x's at the end of all texts, just a lil habit I have
Darth Fox Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 I'd be the first to hold my hands up and admit I make the odd mistake. Sometimes when I'm trying to type quickly to avoid being caught at work it may appear to come through as gibberish and other times I'm so angry with Levein etc that the Dark Side of the force makes me shake a bit and typing is awful.
Cat Burger Posted 25 January 2006 Author Posted 25 January 2006 I put x's to some of my male mates but not others, depends if it's appropriate, tongue in cheek like.
Rincewind Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 I put x's to some of my male mates but not others, depends if it's appropriate, tongue in cheek like. If I didn't know what you meant I'd say that statement was suspect.
Muz Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 Girl to girl: Yes Boy to boy: No way, Jose. I put a x's on my texts to my male mates. I feel comfortable in doing so All girls get a fair few
Benji Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 I put a x's on my texts to my male mates. I feel comfortable in doing so All girls get a fair few Same if your gay your gay, someone who makes a big deal out of not putting an x is more likely to be gay than someone who does it with confidence in their sexuality oh and yea, i'm not actually gay haha
Libertine Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 Same if your gay your gay, someone who makes a big deal out of not putting an x is more likely to be gay than someone who does it with confidence in their sexuality Very good point.

The People's Hero Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 Same here. Don't think I've ever used it. I never use it either. In fact, if someone texts me in txtspk, I always reply 'I don't understand'
