Jonbluefox9 Posted 25 January 2006 Posted 25 January 2006 That's a good point but ultimatley Craig would make the final decison, I'm sure Rob Kelly has his own ideas and who he wants to play etc, i mean he always eemed to be the one shouting stuff from the touchline in the past few games. Fair enough. I like Rob as a man but I can't see how he'll be able to turn us around, especially with only a goalkeeping coach to help him. Another problem with appointing someone from inside the club as the new manager is that it is not a fresh start for the players. Kelly used to spend more time with the players than Levein did so It will just feel like a continuation of the previous regime just with three of the backroom staff not present, unless the players really hated Levein with a passion and just him not being there boosts them. Houston and Levein won't be missed on the training ground in my opinion but Kenny Black will be.

He's been gone so long, I forget which was the reserve team coach and which was first team coach
LCFC UK Posted 26 January 2006 Posted 26 January 2006 Be intresting what team he puts out, wether he will stick with Levein's squad and tactics. I dougbt he will though as will desperatley want this job (i would imagine?). Kelly - Please Do Not Start KISNORBO..pretty please, thanks
TAFKA Castroneves Posted 26 January 2006 Posted 26 January 2006 Well don't start Kisnorbo unless it's in central defense, he's done okay there.
wirralsimon Posted 26 January 2006 Posted 26 January 2006 If wins something like two out of three in his first matches in charge he will probably be given a run at it until the end of the season. If results don't improve he will probably make way for the new managers backroom staff. Simon
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 January 2006 Posted 26 January 2006 He's got a extremly tough task in front of him. He's only been guranteed two games, and if wants to have any chance of landing the job he's going to have to win them both. From what the board have been saying they are actively seeking a replacement. Kelly doesn't just have to do well, he has to make the board sit up and take notice. I dont think he will do it, but I hope he does.
surrifox Posted 26 January 2006 Posted 26 January 2006 It is mentioned that Rob Kelly is a "former city player". I am struggling to recall him playing for the club (end of the 80's/ early 90's I assume.) Can anyone remember him -was he any good and who were his contemporaries?- just curious as I have drawn a bit of a blank and yet I can recall players from the 60's.(old age I suppose)
Louise Posted 26 January 2006 Posted 26 January 2006 Central midfielder, 29 appearances, 1 goal.... other than that I don't know. I never saw him play.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 26 January 2006 Posted 26 January 2006 Why will Black be missed but not Houston & Levein? He's been gone so long, I forget which was the reserve team coach and which was first team coach Because levein and Houston hardly did anything at the training grounsd apart from stand and watch and shout the odd thing occasionally. Black and Kelly used to take the training sessions that's why Levein and Houston won't be missed at training. I'm sure it felt strange for the players today with no Kenny Black there.

Well unfortunately, Black came as part of the Levein-led "managerial dream team". So he's out on his ear with the other pair. At least we still have Kelly. I bet it's a bit wierd of Stowell to be taking a lead in the training sessions with all players, rather than just the keepers. Good luck to them both

Bilko Posted 27 January 2006 Posted 27 January 2006 He was an Irish youth international and his one goal was a beauty...against Manure! Did not really make it as a pro, a bit lightweight. Nice guy tho, met him a couple of times and always happy to chat. Good luck to him!

Exactly the reason why Kelly musn't be the full-time manager. He was the one on the training ground while it was all going wrong so I see him as part of the problem. Also training etc won't seem much different to tyhe players so they'll just go about their jobs as usual (playing sh*t). We need a totally fresh start.

Thing is it wasn't Kelly's tactis they were training on, it was Leveins, do you think that Kelly will continue practising the same things on the training or wil he change a few things ? My guess would be he'll have his own tactics up his sleeve, remember it wasn't that long ago Kelly was at a Premiership club training their players. He knows that if he continues with Leveins ways we'll keep going in the direction we currently are, I'd bet he shakes a few things up. Give the man a chance at least, we possibly couldn't get worse... Could We ?

So I wouldnt expect a team overhaul, there will more then likely be a few changes, Hume will probabley come in for Fryatt. The SPL rejects you all hate so much will more then likely keep their places.

whothefoxthat Posted 27 January 2006 Posted 27 January 2006 I hope not, if Kelly wants the city job he's gonna have to come up with his own ideas!!! Agree, what's the point in continuing doing what he has been, not unless he doesn't give a toss about the full time position. We'll soon see, this time tomorrow we'll see how he's lined the lads up, if it's just fire they need in their bellies then he could be right and continue training and give them what for just before kick off !
Jonbluefox9 Posted 27 January 2006 Posted 27 January 2006 His interview on LC World showed that he is up for it and I get the feeling that he has plenty of his own ideas which we haven't seen for ourselves yet. The fact is that CL didn't appoint him, the board did, and this meant Levein's former assistant was now just a coach officially. I wouldn't be surprised if during his time at the club, CL treated Houston as his assistant and Rob's ideas may have been overlooked. He has a lot more freedom now to do things the way he thinks they should be done. Of course he's going to say he agrees with the majority of what Craig did in public but we all know that people lie to keep others happy. You can't have just worked with someone for 15 months and then straight away come out and say "What was he thinking doing this, that or whatever?"

Le;;y's got a good record as a caretaker, one draw, two wins and I got the feeling from listening to him that he's going to have a go. That's all you can ask really and it's what Levein didn't bother doing most of the time IMO, not properly anyway.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 27 January 2006 Posted 27 January 2006 Just heard the Birch on Heart 106 and it sounds like Rob's bringing in his own ideas already. Apparently the players are no longer allowed to turn up to matches in their tracksuits. They have to wear suits by the sounds of things. Just a small thing but maybe if you dress smartly you might play smartly too!! I like the idea eventhough it's minor.
