Babylon Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 Would anyone else be worried that his outburst about agents/bungs etc could seriously harm our chances of signing players? Just a thought.
Ric Flair Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 Would anyone else be worried that his outburst about agents/bungs etc could seriously harm our chances of signing players? Just a thought. I did think that and perhaps the club are thinking that aswell. From what I gather, Newell has pretty much said he wants the job and I doubt the compensation would be unaffordable for him so something must be holding us back. If it did hinder our chances then it's a ****in disgrace but at the end of the day for us to suceed as a football team we need to buy and sell players.

breadandcheese Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 Would anyone else be worried that his outburst about agents/bungs etc could seriously harm our chances of signing players? Just a thought. Yes, I am worried. Agents are an integral part of the game (rightly or wrongly). Any comments he had regarding the conduct of certain agents should have been aired in private between them alone. I certainly share your fears, Babylon. I guess I am not as enamoured by Newell as others on this board. His record at Hartlepool is hardly encouraging. Having said that, he does seem to be the best candidate out of the names mentioned and has an ability to spot good players.
IDEA OR IKEA Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 All good points, agents could avoid us like a plague for fear of being EXPOSED
Phube Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 I dunno, I agree with his coming out over the cheating agents and managers. Better that than have a Geogre Graham situation and bring the whole club into more ill repute!!

I disagree, taking out the City job and all that. Not all clubs, agents, and players are involved in this. I think it's unfair on those not to expose what the rest are doing, as it does go against the rules of the game. It is tantamount to cheating, and I have more respect for Newell for speaking out than if he'd kept his mouth shut even though we all know what's going on.

I agree, i would imagine that the majority of agents don't offer bungs and would be gratful to Newell for highlighting the scum within their profession

Following on from these very valid points it would also be good for Leicetser, not just from a PR perspective, to sign a manager that is seen as having a good deal of integrity and honesty.

There may be some mileage to be had for agents who do deal with Newell .... on the basis of "look, I'm clean, I've got nothing to worry about." Much may depend on the line taken by the Agents' representative body but in the end it may well be better for them to be seen to be supporting proper practise in the game.
gjp Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 I posted this the other day (newell, no bids) and had same thoughts as you mate .Concerned they"agents" send him to cov so to speak (god forbid) and wont do buisness with him.
ithuriel Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 agents are just the go between , the moment an agent wont do business with certain clubs then surely they are damaging their own position ?
Strokes Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 agents are just the go between , the moment an agent wont do business with certain clubs then surely they are damaging their own position ? Exactly, the only agents offended by this are going to be dodgy one'e which we don't want/need anything to do with.

I also agree with Newell as well, respect him for his integrity. This corruption should have no place within the game. Fact is however that is it prevalent within game and so we must learn to live with it. Missing out on a player who could be pivotal to our season all because we chose not to pay an agent an extra £10,000 would in my mind be very stupid. I don't like this corruption, didn't create it and don't want to be complicit in it but I wouldn't want to see Leicester hindered because of taking a stance. I would also like to add that I think that it is no surprise that Holloway, a man who spoke out in support for Newell's public airing of corruption, has no support from his board during their recent slump. The QPR board are one of the dodgiest board's in football made up of ex-agents. We are not interested in Holloway. Their board are using us as a smokescreen. Anyway, my main point is that I think Newell could have handled it differently, maybe having a quiet word with the FA, or the new body representing football agents. Instead, he has potentially created a rod for his own back by shouting it off in the most public way possible, all over the backpages of the press.
Foxes_Wizard_Striker Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 All this talkabout getting new manager in,Leicester have approached most of championship managers, why not some of league one or two, they are more realastic and there is some gifted managers there (Allen,Gorman and co) Particually I like sound of Eric Black but he is a coach at Birmingham now

As for the lower league managers, we've done that a few times before and it hasn't paid off. The board want to get someone in who has experience in this league and higher if possible.
gjp Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 I agree Newell was doing the right thing in bringing this up but just think it may be difficult for him to do business in the future .I hope I am wrong. As he said prem clubs were looking at some of his players at Luton and he did expect some offers and received none on transfer d day. I also believe most agents are bent and of course they want to do business and make money but I don’t think blacklisting Newell will hurt them to much but could hurt the club he manages. For our club and our history with money its probably wise we only do buisness with the few straight agents that are out there.Bring him on . please not Hollaway!
Foxes_Trust Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 The club has already walked away from deals due the demands of agents, so Mike Newall in charge doesn't change this. Our spend on agents fees over the last 2 years has been alarming, but that's because of the revolving door policy, with all the 3 year contracts in place now for a younger squad we will be asking serious questions of the club if there isn't a significant fall of expenditure in this area during the current financial year

Such as the manager situation?

Craig Posted 7 February 2006 Posted 7 February 2006 Any 'other' news to report? Such as the manager situation? The foxes trust are more concerned about how long the grass is on the touchline. It's absolutely absurd to even have the thought enter your mind that they might know something of use.
