Kelly Signs Contract

Recommended Posts

Glad it's finally been confirmed, what if he does really well though? I'm sure he this will end up that he does well for us then a big team nick him off us. I'm going to guess Villa

Anyone that's dumb enough to choose Villa over us doesn't deserve a job at our beloved club.

Anybody want to explain what rolling contract means?

(sorry if it's already been said, i'm in a hurry and can't read through the thread)

It just means if he ever wants to get out it would cost him us or the club he goes too that amount thats all and its basically his job until we kick him out

Indeed - his position is his until either he, or the board decide to end it.

Should we decide at some point that we don't want him, we have to either give him 12 months notice, or we pay him off for the 12 months he would otherwise be contracted for.

I can't understand why that wasn't what we did with Levein - that would have saved us a wedge in January. Maybe Levein didn't like the idea (and who can blame him after that? lol)

I'm pleased it's been settled now. The preparation for next season starts now. I think Kelly will stick with the same line up (barring injuries) to maintain some consistency until the end of the season, and then take that in to following campaign.

What hasn't helped us over the past few seasons was the high turnover of players under Adams and Levein. I can see Kelly trying to keep most of the squad together, with a few releases and addtions along the way.

I see a large part of the current starting 11 to be the core of the team next season.

Hume, Fryatt, Williams or Hughes, Stearman, Kisnorbo, McCarthy for example.

Weso will most likely be in the core too.

These are the players that will take us forwards, they will start most games when fit/available. The other positions are probably still up for grabs at the minute. Wide midfielders will probably change, and the left back position is probably up for grabs despite Nissa's best efforts. Who will be first choice goalkeeper is hard to guess - both have figured under Kelly, but he's stuck with Henderson since he came in, indicating that Douglas isn't an automatic choice, so perhaps he won't be first choice next season.

Pre-season could be quite interesting, but we probably wont see the same kind of turnover we saw last year.

Let's hope the team go somewhere decent for pre-season so we can test the team. If we go somewhere crap like Scotland, we won't be able to tell if things are working or not. lol

Well it sounds very similar to our position, both of our former managers did'nt get results but the caretakers have.I'm suprised how well Kelly has done for you,and he definately deserves the job, like Frank and Charlie do for us.I hope he takes you up next season, because you are the East Midland's best chance at the moment of premiership football, because I certainly don't want the sheepshaggers flying the East Midlands flag!

A statement is always released before a press conference to cover the basics so that journos don't have to ask too many questions and there is less chance of being mis-quoted.

New Chairman And Manager For Foxes

LEICESTER City Football Club today (Friday) announced the appointments of a new chairman and a new football manager.

Andrew Taylor, former Chairman and Chief Executive of McDonald's UK, becomes the club's new executive chairman in succession to Jim McCahill.

And Rob Kelly (pictured) has signed a rolling one-year agreement to be manager after successfully preserving the club's Championship status this season.

Both appointments will be unveiled at a press conference at the Walkers Stadium this morning.

A Foxes fan since the mid 1970s, Mr Taylor will assume the chairmanship from June 1. In the interim period he will act as deputy chairman to Mr McCahill.

Mr Taylor said: "It is a great honour to become chairman of a club I have supported since I was a student and I am delighted to announce that Rob Kelly has agreed to become our next manager.

"Together with the players, he has done a marvellous job for the club in preserving our Championship status and richly deserves his opportunity.

"I know that he can count on the full backing of the board, the players, supporters and everyone connected with the club."

Mr Taylor (48) is married with four children and as a season ticket holder is a regular attendee at Foxes matches home and away with his children.

Mr Taylor graduated from the University of Leicester in 1979 and began his business career at McDonald's as a management trainee in 1979. He was appointed Chief Executive in 1996 and Chairman in 2002 and left the business after 25 years in 2004.

Kelly assumes his new position after originally taking over on a short-term basis in succession to Craig Levein in January.

During that time the club have won seven, drawn three and lost two of 12 matches to ease relegation fears and preserve the club's Championship status.

"I am very flattered to be offered the position and delighted to accept it," said Kelly.

"I have really enjoyed my first taste of management and would like to thank the players, staff and the supporters for their backing.

"It is they who have ultimately helped me get this position. We have preserved our Championship status this season which was the challenge we were given in January.

"We face even tougher challenges in the future but I can assure everyone connected with the club that I, my staff and the players will doing our utmost to bring success to the club."

Mr McCahill has been chairman for three years and he will now assume a new position of deputy chairman.

He said: "It has been a great privilege to serve the club as Chairman. I have many great memories and will continue to give the club my complete backing.

"There are many duties to be undertaken as deputy chairman and I look forward to giving Andrew, the board and the club my continued support."

Kelly Thanks Players, Staff And Fans

ROB Kelly today (Friday) paid tribute to his players, staff and supporters for helping earn him his appointment as new Leicester City manager.

Kelly has put pen to paper on a new rolling one-year contract after successfully preserving the club's Championship status.

Originally made caretaker manager in succession to Craig Levein in January, Kelly has steered the club to seven wins and three draws in 12 games to turn around the club's campaign.

He said: "On a personal note this is a great moment for me. But I owe it all to the players, staff and supporters who have been so magnificent in the past few months.

"Without their total support and backing, we could not have achieved those results and I would not be standing here right now.

"It's a great honour that I should be considered for the role and I was delighted to accept it.

"I have enjoyed being a manager. And I enjoy being at Leicester City. This is a great day for me but I will not forget the people who made it possible for me."

Kelly has been rewarded for turning the Foxes season around with a run of results which equates to promotion form.

Three points inside the relegation zone when he succeeded Craig Levein in January, City are now in 16th spot and 13 points above the bottom three.

Kelly is delighted with the form but says the new challenges ahead will be every bit as tough.

"The first brief was to preserve our Championship status which we have achieved quicker than we dared hope for," said Kelly.

"You won't find me popping the champagne corks, though. If we look at the season overall, we have failed to match the high expectations and standards we set ourselves back in July.

"We have shown in the past three months that we can compete successfully and that must be our aim next season on a consistent basis.

"We must be mindful that with the loss of the parachute payment from next season the club's finances are changing and we must continue to endeavour to get the absolute maximum out of our players on a budget the club can afford.

"There will be tough decisions which have to be made regarding players' contracts and I will be sitting down with the board to map out budgets and our strategies for next season.

"It's a very exciting time but also a very challenging one. I can assure all Leicester fans though that I, my team and the players will do everything possible to bring success to the club."

Andrew Taylor, who succeeds Jim McCahill as chairman, paid tribute to Kelly's management skills.

"He has done a better job than I think just about every Leicester City supporter had dared to hope for," said Mr Taylor.

"There has been a remarkable turnaround in results and it is extremely encouraging that Rob has been able to harness the collective support of players and supporters.

"There are many challenges ahead for the football club but Rob is unquestionably the right man to take us forward on the football field.

"Rob has always conducted himself with the utmost professionalism and integrity and richly deserves this opportunity."

Formerly a player with the Foxes, Kelly arrived at the Walkers Stadium 16 months ago as assistant manager to Craig Levein. He had previously been Head of Youth Coaching/Reserve Coach at Blackburn Rovers.
