The Reverend Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 ... Bollocks. We must be in a very good position to call a player who's just been called up for international duty "useless" and "a waste of space"And yes, I know this was written before the Wolves game and today's game. Haha. Funny how we get these responses after 2 decent matches But seriously, i have been one of his critics, but today he had a good game, and he was decent against Wolves. If he carries on like this fair play to him, seems like Ollies got a part of the old Stearman back.
Raj Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 Credit were it is due. As fans we are always quick to knock one of our own,but the boy did well today. Hope he keeps it up as i think Ollie wil not think twice about getting rid of him if he strays.
Trumpet Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 Bollocks. We must be in a very good position to call a player who's just been called up for international duty "useless" and "a waste of space"And yes, I know this was written before the Wolves game and today's game. And exactly why, if he had had a shocker today, you probably wouldn't have said that.
Brainy Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 Erm, I would have actually. Mainly because im not one to knock players.
lildave3 Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 Good again today, fair play. Let's just hope he sticks to it and keeps playing well. Slight bit of cockyness towards the end, but I can accept that when we're 2-0 up into stoppage time
WetFlannel Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 Maybe hes finally realized that his postition at the club is under threat with Ollie threatening a major overhaul of players
Daggers Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 The overhead kick - what the fudge was that all about?!
Nath Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 Erm, I would have actually.Mainly because im not one to knock players. You shouldn't be either, untill you have seen them play.
lildave3 Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 The overhead kick - what the fudge was that all about?! That's what I meant by cockyness towards the end. No need. But like I say, 2-0 up into stoppage time, sod it.
Thracian Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 Maybe hes finally realized that his postition at the club is under threat with Ollie threatening a major overhaul of players Or maybe he's not being left out to dry everytime he goes forward because he has someone fast and willing like Chambers to provide back-up. All he's had before this season, and much of last, is people who went into blind alleys and who didn't offer any significant cover at all.
Daggers Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 Or maybe he's not being left out to dry everytime he goes forward because he has someone fast and willing like Chambers to provide back-up. Agreed. Chambers was the making of him today.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 He's going to have to keep it up because Chambers isn't a midfielder, we're bringing in midfielders in January and Stearman will have a fight on his hands up against Chambers for the right-back spot.
Fatbloke Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 Maybe hes finally realized that his postition at the club is under threat with Ollie threatening a major overhaul of players good point, great to have the real Stearman back and it applies to all the players, a vastly improved display from all, except CJ, another reason for the improvement is that Ollie has identified those who did`nt wan`t to be here and got rid, this had a positive effect on those who do !
Staf Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 Played brilliant yesterday hopefully he can find some consistency
Daz.I Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 I've slagged him off constantly since the start of the season but credit where credits due he was good at wolves and brilliant today
BigGibbo Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 Agreed.Chambers was the making of him today. Only problem being none of them can cross & as we regularly attack down the wing its not a good look!
Joe. Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 Erm, I would have actually.Mainly because im not one to knock players. Mainly because you don't see them. Some of them have deserved stick this season, and Stearman's deserved everything he's got so far.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 Only problem being none of them can cross & as we regularly attack down the wing its not a good look! I agree. It's Stearman/Maybury all over again and Stearman is going to have to work hard to keep his place ahead of Chambers when we either get a quality right-winger in or bring Gradel back from his loan.

Agreed if i had to choose one of the two at right back now it would be Chambers because he's just pure energy but theres not alot in it, Stearman could still persuade me otherwise.

I agree. Chambers poses much more of an attacking threat, and he's a natural wing back. Stearman just doesn't cut it as a wing back for me, and I think Chambers would be better suited to our attacking needs. However with Stearman's performances in the last two games he is definitely making me think a bit more about it. If he can keep it up great, Holloway will have a selection headache. But if he reverts back to the Stearman we've seen for too long the choice should be obvious.

If the two were at their best I'd have Stearman. His ability to score goals and deliver a final pass make him the more dangerous. I've worried about his close marking but he seems to have attended to that with some emphasis.
