Stearman

I still rate Stearman even if he is everyone elses whipping boy nowadays.

I used to. I'm not so sure nowadays. he has an anti sterman club on here though. I'm sit on the fence really on the matter.

Chambers is better at him at rightback, then RS. Stearz is a CB though to be fair to him.

How many people have seen Chambers play rightback for a couple of games?

Chambers has played there for us for one half of one game! We have had 83 appearances to judge Stearman on so of course we are going to have seen him play badly and make mistakes. We have also seen him play well and score and create goals too.

While I'm not suggesting that Stearman is better than Chambers it is ridiculous that everyone has come to this conclusion despite not seeing him play in that position. Fact us, Stearman has made more of a contribution than most of the squad this season yet he is absolutely villified on here at the moment. The guy even got ridiculed for being included in the England U21 squad, probably his biggest achievement in his career so far. Then despite this abuse we still expect him and the rest of the team to care about the fans and to play for the shirt. No wonder their morale is so low at the moment.

I do to an extent. He has the ability just not the correct attitude and concentration at times.

Well he kissed the badge after we scored so I'm sure he's committed to stopping here.

Loads of players do that and leave but i do think he will stay

Please will sombody tell Stearman when he's playing right back to stop drifting inside, his positional play is awful at right back. he's a center half at heart.

I don't know anyone that can tell him, perhaps you should write to him?

As for drifting inside, thats because he is a CB not a RB

I don't think he does drift inside personally. From my view at the back of F1 I get a good look at Stearman's positional play each week and his main problem seems to be that he pushes forward and gets caught on the break. That doesn't just apply to WBA's first goal the other week, it happens quite regularly. Pushing forward is a good attribute for a full-back but we don't keep the ball well enough to cater for it much and our centre-backs are too slow to cover effectively. Plus he's not been very good going forward either and has posed hardly any sort of goal threat too. All in all a poor season so far but he's in good company in that respect.

Nice to see someone talking sense for a change. He's good enough ....and it wouldn't be the first time that new players around him might get him ticking.

yeah, I know he's a CB at heart. But when your told to play a certain position you should stick to it. Its not as though wer'e short of other right backs to play in his place.

I think you'll find Flynny that he played there all his life untill he was put in the first team at city because of an injury/suspension. :dunno:

Looking at him though he isnt a RB, he is too lanky for a start.

He's had seasons and seasons at Right-back and has gotten WORSE. He must have played 80 games for us there at least. If he played at centre-back in youth football aged 11 it really doesn't compare to however many first-team games he's played for us at right-back.

I'm not his biggest detractor by a long-shot but he needs to work on his game and quickly.

I've always rated Stearman. He has made mistakes and he does seem to have let "stardom" take his focus away. He's young so you could forgive him that. He's been here long enough though and you cant justify him staying especially as we have other players to replace him.

I agree with all of that, especially the bit I've highlighted.

Some of the criticism he receives are not always justified but he has been truly poor for a period of time now. And it gets noticed easily when left wingers of this division skin him almost every week. He has no positional sense, sometimes you just see him neck to neck with McAuley or Kisnorbo and then our left side is completely wide open. I do agree with you though that the abuse he gets is quite appalling sometimes but for a lad who has made over 100 appearances for the club but yet he doesn't seem to progress and develop is very frustrating for us all. If anything, he has gone backwards since the day he made his debut few years ago. Only 21 I know, but I just think dropping him would actually do him the world of good.

As for Chambers, people have seen him at Watford and knows how good he is. He's had one or two games at RB for us, and he is stood out.

I do agree with what you're saying about Stearman, also Chambers. There are quite a few people on this forum that just go around posting " agreed " without really having an opinion or a reason as to why they think something. Especially when it comes to the "Stearman is shit debate"

For me, Stearman just does so many elementary things wrong it's becoming absolutely criminal to carry on playing him at right back. Sloppy passing all the time and far to casual when he's on the ball. When he came on at Hull he must of missed the ball and let it roll out of play at least twice, he was only on for 15 minutes.

At West Brom he was turned inside out twice before their winger spared him some embarrassment and crossed in the ball, but you guessed it, they scored. This isn't the first time it's happened, he's had his chance now and a fully fit Chambers should get his.

N Gotty seems to have the nod at the moment but that hasn't really worked out. He's been exposed for his lack of pace and mobility on a number of occasions before and this will continue as he isn't getting any younger. Chambers however has a superb level of fitness and has always seemed fairly agile when filling in at midfield when needed.

The sooner Chambers gets a prolonged run in the team the better.

Chambers is a good player, I liked the look of him when we played him at right back earlier in the season. The thing with him is that he can play in different positions.

Stearz is a central player wether it be in midfield or defence. but we've got some good solid CB's playing there atm so I cant see him playing CB soon. So i'd possible give him a run in the central midfield while wezza is out.

But I think Kenton did well there against WBA. So

I kind of agree he has the ability but attitude I think is definitely not there. I mean he went out on the piss just before the Southampton match what that all about :dunno: ?

I think IH will get the attitude out of stearz and get him playing well again. This club has become far to lax latly, Managers letting the players get away with shocking performances and shocking behaviour. But it is obvious that IH isn't taking no shi* and will give an honest assesment which i think is the correct way to do things. The whole sqaud need a kick up the backside to get there arsses into gear, stop moping and moaning, and get on that pitch with some passion for the club and there team mates, and play for there pride. They need to look at themselves long and hard, and realise that this is not just a game where you earn shite laods of money, and realise its a bloody family, The fans are your family, your team mates are your family, and the manager is your father with MM (chairman) as your Godafather. You need to grit your teeth and get stuck in for the family. You need to do your best for the family. You need to show energy, commitment, passion, belief, determination for the family!

If all our players took this attitude then we'd be playiong mucb etter as a unit. Its what i tell my team, tehy are young but they understand my passion for the game, and you can see it develope in them as they get older. Stearz needs to show the determination and passion he showed a few years back, and he needs to start playing his best. atm he has no competitiopn and hes taking advantage of that.

Absolutely. He's a liability defensively and going forward he offers very little. N'Gotty is surely not the answer to that problem. James Chambers is a proven RB in this division and as you said the sooner he gets a prolonged run in the team the better.

I don't think Ollie sees N'Gotty as a RB, even temporarily so I reckon we might see Stearman back in the team against Wolves since we have no other alternative at the moment.

I think he's useless some of you may say it's harsh but if I was holloway I'd be doing my best to try and ship him off jan the 1st

If Steamans performances under Holloway are going to have any impact on whether he retains his place again, I'd be shocked to see him in the team anytime soon. At times I just feel like he's lost his head and his confidence. When he first came into the team and started playing well, he would of had no pressure on him and be able to experiment a bit somewhat. After his first season in which he was one of our better players, I think he's struggled to maintain that and collapsed under some of the expectation.

I think Stearman needs time to get himself together and maybe go back to the basics that got him in the team in the first place.

Stearman is Shite, I'd get rid. I think we have a lot of other players that are capable to do his job a lot better than him.
