Leicester Lass Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 Joey: I'll be sad to leave Joey Gudjonsson would love to crown his final Leicester City home game with a win - and a goal - against Plymouth tomorrow (3.0). The 25-year-old Iceland international says farewell to the Walkers Stadium for the last time before his summer switch to Dutch club AZ Alkmaar. And Gudjonsson admitted: "It will be sad to say goodbye. I've loved my stay here and, hopefully, the club and the fans have been happy with me." He is also pleased that his final few games have not been in the midst of a relegation scrap. "Since Rob (Kelly) took over, the form we have been in is play-off form," said Gudjonsson. "Everyone is really happy with the work the manager has done. He knew the players inside out already so I think it was a good appointment by the club. "When Rob took over, something changed. He tries to bring out the best in everyone. "He points out the things you are doing right, rather than concentrating on the negatives. Everyone is more confident in their own ability. He's lifted the whole club." Gudjonsson could also walk off with both the fans' and the club's the player-of-the-year and the goal-of-the-season titles. "If you give your best, the supporters will always back you, and I think I've done my bit. "I want to finish on a high at the Walkers because the fans have been brilliant, even when things were not going as they should have." Gudjonsson's performances this season have been illuminated by his goals, and he added: "The two goals against Hull, particularly the one from the halfway line, would be among my personal highlights. "I'm pleased with nine goals and, hopefully, I can make it 10 before the end of the season." Manager Kelly described Gudjonsson's attitude as "exemplary". He said: "He knew in January he would be playing his football elsewhere but he has continued, and moved on, in terms of his performances. He will be a loss to us."
DaveyJ Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 I'll be sad to see him go, he's definitely being one of the best this season and his halfway line goal will live long in the memory. Good luck to him.

Matt Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 Worth a bet on First/Last Goalscorer at 7/1? Prehaps even a scorecast?

bigneville Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 Thanks Joey! Its been a good season for you this season, you've helped us with some cracking performances and goals which may have ultimately kept us up. Cheers I would go as far as saying he's joined the legends like Muzzy Izzet & Neil Lennon in the memories of us. We wish him the best.
Matt Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 I would go as far as saying he's joined the legends like Muzzy Izzet & Neil Lennon in the memories of us. We wish him the best. Not quite but borderline. Personally I think he has only turned it on this season, he was abit poor last season, This season one of out best players...
DaveyJ Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 Not quite but borderline. Personally I think he has only turned it on this season, he was abit poor last season, This season one of out best players... Yeah same here. I'm gona miss him but I wouldn't say he's like Muzzy, maybe if he stayeda couple more seasons.
Scow Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 Not quite but borderline. Personally I think he has only turned it on this season, he was abit poor last season, This season one of out best players... I wouldn't say it's anywhere near borderline. Granted, he's played well this season, and chipped in with a number of goals (Quite a few from the penalty spot) but he's had one decent season with us. Remember the season before? I don't think he will be missed as much as some make out. He was a bit of a dilemma really. Not the most disciplined of defensive midfielders, and apart from his long range shooting, his attacking play was largely over rated. He contributed a few good assists (Maybury v Derby and Hume v Crewe and Hull) but his rash distribution and passing didn't help at times. Nonetheless, I'd rather we retained him, but we'll move on.
martyn Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 Borderline legend? I don't think we'll miss him as long as Wesolowski can return strongly although he does chip in with his fair share of goals.

SystonFox Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 i think he will score from the spot 2moro infront of the kop after 85 mins waving goodbye as he trudges back to his own half. chanting JOEY GUDJONSSON CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP
DaveyJ Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 i think he will score from the spot 2moro infront of the kop after 85 mins waving goodbye as he trudges back to his own half. chanting JOEY GUDJONSSON CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP Hope so. Hope he has a good last game, he deserves a good send off. Legend or not, this season at least he's been a good player.
Nationwider Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 He wouldn't have got on the bench in the MON years, but he'll be missed short-term in our present predicament. A fine exponent of the 40-yard tap-in.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 21 April 2006 Posted 21 April 2006 I thank him for his efforts this season but wouldn't class him as being near Izzet or Lennon in terms of legendary status. I'll remember him as a consistent performer in an under achieving squad of players. Good luck to him for the future.
fosseman Posted 22 April 2006 Posted 22 April 2006 He wouldn't have got on the bench in the MON years, but he'll be missed short-term in our present predicament. A fine exponent of the 40-yard tap-in. Yes, one to remember... vaguely in years to come! Cough, Joey. Enjoy Holland.
