Jordan Posted 11 May 2006 Posted 11 May 2006 Methinks I once read an article online about Leicester being the cradle of modern English, so that could be another one.
Muz Posted 11 May 2006 Posted 11 May 2006 Leicesters going to be the first City in England to have the White people as the minority. Apparently.

Dr The Singh Posted 12 May 2006 Posted 12 May 2006 Leicesters going to be the first City in England to have the White people as the minority. Apparently. bradford? Apparantly Leicester will have the largest % of ethnic minorities in any city and within 25 years, 50% of the population will be from ethnic minorities!!

Thracian Posted 12 May 2006 Posted 12 May 2006 Never was it better illustrated than when, for the first time in 20 years, I sat at Leicester station for an hour yesterday I watched the coming and going of travellers. I would think the proportion of ethnic whites to other hues was around 1-5. Fascinating though. So many of the girls were stunning. Perhaps they all start to strike you that way as you get older. If so it's the first good thing I've discovered about the aging process.

Guest Posted 12 May 2006 Posted 12 May 2006 It was a day trip to Loughborough from Leicester. Thomas Cook was part of the Temperance movement, and organised it for them, I believe the legend goes.

Janx Posted 12 May 2006 Posted 12 May 2006 I used to do that journey on the 127, rather than Thomas Cook-ing it. Yep me too although it was the 625/626/627 on Midland Red in my day! bah!

Knighton Matt Posted 13 May 2006 Posted 13 May 2006 Not if you white guys and girls start breeding real fast? I'll put my balls on the line to make a change. Literally.
Teeno Posted 13 May 2006 Posted 13 May 2006 Apparantly Leicester will have the largest % of ethnic minorities in any city and within 25 years, 50% of the population will be from ethnic minorities!! That's really quite worrying, I have nothing against people of ethnic minorities. But sooner or later England is going to lose it's identity. Do these statistics come from imigration stats or is it reproduction rates? If it's the later then there's no problem, but if it's because of people illigally entering the country and coming to Leicester then it's not good.

Leicester will be the first city in the Western World to have a non-white majority by (estimated) 2015.
Babylon Posted 13 May 2006 Posted 13 May 2006 Apparantly Leicester will have the largest % of ethnic minorities in any city and within 25 years, 50% of the population will be from ethnic minorities!! Can we start calling those groups ethnic majorities?? Ooooh i'll be a minority then.

The People's Hero Posted 14 May 2006 Posted 14 May 2006 Thomas Cook lived in Market Harborough. His house is still standing on Adam and Eve Street. I believe there is a statue of him just outside of Leicester Train Station.
Jay Posted 14 May 2006 Posted 14 May 2006 Leicester is home to the first centre for English local history, established by the pioneering local historian W. G. Hoskins. It remains a leading centre for the study of English local history within one of the largest schools of historical studies in the UK. Its Sociology department has also been home to many prominent sociologists over the years. and I didn't copy and paste that!!!
