Benji Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 Of mice and men, god i hated that, i'd seen the film twice on T.V but didnt watch it/read the book in lessons usually scipped the important ones. I got an A* somehow (im guessing this is for GCSE) so it's obviously more about how you write than what you write, as i knew nothing about it!
Bluefoxtim Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 lucky sod. How important is it to actually know a lot of quotes?
Benji Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 lucky sod. How important is it to actually know a lot of quotes? I wouldn't like to say for sure: But remember it's GCSE's.. A levels are a different story, everyone doing them is expected to enjoy it and be good at it. GCSE's however are compulsary, which will be taken in mind when your paper is marked, plus they understand you have about 10/11 subjects to revise for. It would be good to know a few quotes but you don't know what the question will be on. Your best bet is to read the book one more time, know exactly what happens where, [try getting away with writting a few key things at front of ur book like pg51 = L. Dies or something like that (your not allowed full sentence notes are you?) unless the formats changed since 2 yrs ago] Then, when you get your question, you'll know what pages to concentrate on and you can pick suitable quotes in the exam itself without having to memorise them. When i sat it i read 'Of mice and men' and the other thing we studied (a view from the bridge or summet) the day before the exam and just learnt what happened and roughly where. Then I just opened the book, picked a quote from the page the question was about, and tried to make it relevant. If i remember rightly you need to concentrate on the book as a whole don't you? so like don't make ur essay solely about one part of the book, although im guessing the question will direct you into doing that anyway. Eitherway just revise/prepare to the way that best suits you, but in History A2 an A grade band in the examiners mark scheme always says there can be some degree of inaccuracy/imbalance. Examiners do understand the pressures/lack of time of the exams so it's nothing to worry about in that respect.
loz Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 i did gcse english last year and the format has changed now. you get given a clean copy in the exam. you are not allowed a book with any notes on it.

Iv just learnt hamming so im quite happy! Worked out that i already have 21% so maybe i could be ok. I am still reeling from this mornings...nothing but nothing that I revised was one there. What a great foolproof plan I had - ha! Fortunately the coursework will make u p for it... Still, two days to go and it's all over mate. Just a shedload of maths...
Hitesh Posted 22 May 2006 Posted 22 May 2006 Ok, i think iv had the hardest and easiest exams of my life today! The internet Computing exam was easy!! Well, not sure about some of the multiple choice questions but the Section B, creating a website, was easy. I should be ok! Im gonna forget about the CSP exam for now, cant do anything about it now! Maths is going to be really hard and im dreading it! I want to know what my coursework is though! At the moment though, it doesnt matter much how well we have done because we probably wont get the results! Gonna be a shambles me thinks! Good luck to everyone else for their exams by the way! Just do your best and dont worry yourself because that only makes you worry more! Come wednesday, 11.30AM, il be down the pub!
