Oh Fock

England striker Wayne Rooney will not be fit to resume training for six weeks, a scan on his broken metatarsal has revealed.

If the six-week prediction by medical staff is correct, Rooney would be fit just two days before the final.

England's first World Cup group stage match against Paraguay is on 10 June, with the final on 9 July.

Rooney, 20, will have another scan on 14 June to determine what role if any he will have during the campaign.

Now it says:

Wayne Rooney has been told he will not discover when he can resume training for another three weeks.

Where does it say that then?

Two weeks 'til the next scan

I still think he'll be ok for a brief appearance against Sweden and a full start in the last 16 should we get there.

Wayne Rooney will definitely miss England's World Cup group stage games - after a scan revealed he cannot train for at least another three weeks.

Rooney's club, Manchester United, confirmed the 20-year-old will require another scan on 14 June to determine when he can return to action.

If the striker's broken metatarsal is given the all-clear, he would have 10 days to get fit for a last-16 tie.

England have to decide by 9 June whether to replace Rooney in the squad.

Not too worried, the group isn't too difficult, 5 points should be enough, but it makes the first game a vital one, a loss to Paraguay, will mean they need to beat the Swedes, and without Rooney that will be even more difficult!!!

From the BBC. It says three weeks.:unsure::whistle::(

Rooney to miss England group ties

This is very encouraging news. We hope Wayne can play his part in the World Cup

Wayne Rooney will definitely miss England's World Cup group stage games - after a scan revealed he cannot train for at least another three weeks.

England have to decide by 9 June whether to replace Rooney in the squad.

He suffered the injury in a Premiership game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 29 April.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says the club are happy with Rooney's progress but will not rush him back into action.

"Wayne has trained incredibly hard and we have supported him with his fight to get to the World Cup," said Ferguson.

"But it's obvious we have to be certain he is physically and mentally fit.

"The specialist has confirmed what we have always thought and we are confident in that assessment. We are satisfied with Wayne's progress."

Rooney will link up with his England colleagues in Manchester on Sunday when the squad arrives for two pre-World Cup friendlies.

He will fly out to Germany with the rest of the squad on 5 June but must fly back to Manchester on 14 June for a further scan.

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson says he is happy with Rooney's progress and remains hopeful that the striker can play in the World Cup.

"This is very encouraging news," said the Swede. "I'm looking forward to Wayne joining up with the rest of the squad on Sunday.

"The fact that he is flying out to Germany with us will give everyone a huge lift.

"I have spoken to Sir Alex Ferguson and we had a really good conversation.

"Despite all the speculation, there has been a very positive dialogue with Manchester United all along.

"We are very grateful for the support that they have given Wayne and the England team.

"We're still hoping that the second scan will show further improvement and that Wayne can play his part in the World Cup."

After playing Paraguay in Frankfurt on 10 June, England go on to face Trinidad & Tobago in Nuremberg on 15 June and Sweden in Cologne on 20 June.

If they top Group B, they will face a last 16 game in Stuttgart on 25 June and if they finish second, they will play in Munich on 24 June.

Lennon will take apart both Paraguay and Trinidad if needed. Sweden if we can get a draw against thewm should ensure the group win depending on goal difference. Then Rooney will be available for the rest, if it's Poland in the 2nd round then it's not essential he's fully fit for that anyway. Get him ready for the quarters if we get there.

I'm very optimistic about Lennon.

I would forget about Crouch and play Gerrard, Joe Cole and Lennon behind Owen. Beckham and Lampard a little deeper to battle it out in the centre.

I'd forget about Owen and play Crouch in the same system.

Aye, right!

This is the same Sir Alex Ferguson who said "In six weeks' time Rooney will have another two weeks to get fit to play in the quarter-final of a World Cup. That is a wild dream.".

And admitted to that "A lot of people might think I am selfish but Wayne is the most important player in the team at Manchester United.

"We have to ensure the boy is going to be fit at the start of the season for us, so we all become selfish in that respect.

"England are selfish and Manchester United are selfish because they want the best for their operation."

So apart from demoralising Rooney by dismissing his chances of playing in the WC and admitting that he doesn't want him to go to Germany, Sir alex has been full of support!

Sven will still take him! Just to keep that players and fans happier i guess...mainly for morale. Then hopefully, he will recover for the knockout stages and make an impact!
