shen Posted 27 May 2006 Posted 27 May 2006 Just to let you know that Paraguay should not pose you any problems on this showing. Denmark played with an unrecognisable defense; virtual debutant Lars Jacobsen at rightback, full debutant Bo Svensson in central defense, Thomas Helveg who's been out injured for over 6 months partnering him and Jan Kristiansen, normally an offensive midfielder played at leftback. And to be honest, Paraguay didn't create a single real chance. They got their goal from a huge howler by Helveg. They gave quite a bit of space to the Danes around 25-30m from goal, so players like Gerrard or Lampard seem to be the key to unlocking this otherwise very defensive team.
Ricey Posted 27 May 2006 Posted 27 May 2006 Good to hear, Trinidad and Tobago were pretty poor against Wales also
shen Posted 27 May 2006 Author Posted 27 May 2006 Good to hear, Trinidad and Tobago were pretty poor against Wales also I saw the highlights, and it looked like they outplayed Wales for most of the game They certainly had the greater number of chances
shen Posted 27 May 2006 Author Posted 27 May 2006 As were Sweden when they played recently...... England haven't beaten Sweden in a competitive game for eons...
Milky Posted 28 May 2006 Posted 28 May 2006 And we lost to an "Under strength Belarus" you do know it was our B team
Ricey Posted 28 May 2006 Posted 28 May 2006 I saw the highlights, and it looked like they outplayed Wales for most of the game They certainly had the greater number of chances Correct, however they made silly mistakes at the back and never really looked totally comfortable.
Bert Posted 28 May 2006 Posted 28 May 2006 you do know it was our B team Yes i did, (even though i wouldn't call it "b" team because it was just a way of us playing the players that aren't going to be started or lacking match practice that played) but all of the players who played in that friendly will have some part to play in the world cup and even that team should've beaten a full strength Belarus let alone a under strength Belarus.
BartonFox Posted 28 May 2006 Posted 28 May 2006 you do know it was our B team lol There is going to be a great deal of wailing and gnashing of teeth in about 3 weeks time. Spunked by 10 man Belarus

Hitesh Posted 28 May 2006 Posted 28 May 2006 Watching these teams over the past week or two, i have seen that its only England to lose! These other teams are still trying to figure out their best line-up and formation, whereas we have a line up which is pretty much set and they have been playing for a while. My only concern is goals but this is where we need all our midfield players to come up with a few! They have done it in the league, and i think its about time Lampard does it for England!

Where have you been mate? You need to replace "and i think its about time Lampard does it for England" with "and i think its about time Gerrard does it for England"
SystonFox Posted 30 May 2006 Posted 30 May 2006 gerrard will do it for england. he will be our best player in this tournament, its his year i promise u
Manwell Pablo Posted 1 June 2006 Posted 1 June 2006 Just to keep everyone updated Paraguay played again last night and beat Georga 1-0 Wender Bremans Nelson Valdez getting the goal, probabley a player we will have to keep quiet on June 10th, he will pose the biggest threat with Santa Cruz out. Still scrapeing a 1-0 V Georga is hardly a reasult to be proud of and is encouraging when coupled with there ( according to Shen ) Disaapointing showing vs Denmark. T&T Went down 3-1 To Slovenia, Novakovic with a hat trick for Slovenia, "White boy blatently not from the west indies" Chris Burchill scored for T&T. Nothing here to suggest T&T shouldn't be a walk over Well at least everyone else in our group isn't setting the world on fire Paraguays warm ups are no over Sweden Play Chile Tomorrow evening, T&T play Czechs on Saturday, while of course we play Jamica

We'll probably already be through by the time we play Sweden (they'll probably be through and all) and so the final match of the group will be meaningless. We'll get through to the knock-outs without playing to our ability and then we'll get found out against the big boys.

That's what they'll aim for. If you can't break their stubborn 9 man defense or if you become a victim of a silly mistake or swift counter-attack, then a draw against them seems likely. That's how they managed to draw against Denmark (albeit in a friendly) even when being outplayed for 90 minutes.
