jack_LCFC Posted 3 July 2006 Posted 3 July 2006 I think Mark De Vries can do really well this time under Rob Kelly, does anyone else agree?
syston_fox Posted 3 July 2006 Posted 3 July 2006 I think we should certainly give him the chance to see what he can do. I cant see him ever being in the starting line up with Fryatt and Hume up front but could make a useful substitute!
Nationwider Posted 3 July 2006 Posted 3 July 2006 I think Mark De Vries can do really well this time under Rob Kelly, does anyone else agree? Welcome to FT. My guess is that you'll get more No's than Yes's in answer to your question. I've always had a soft spot for the lumbering great galah - I like a big, ungainly targetman - it's very "Football League". I hope he comes good for us this year. We're not blessed with many strikers, so we may well need him.
TAFKA Castroneves Posted 3 July 2006 Posted 3 July 2006 I think if he's used properly and the ball is played to his feet as a holding player he could do fine as a sub to change things up a bit. I like MDV myself so we'll see, he could be the revelation of the season.
Bert Posted 3 July 2006 Posted 3 July 2006 Rob Kelly's middle name is miracle!! I'm prepared to give De Vries a secong chance, although he was bob, he did work hard.
Dr The Singh Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 He's here to stay, so he will be given a chance, plus he is an option interms of his height, but I do think he needs to lose some weight, he was alot more trim when he was at his best for Hearts!!
Ric Flair Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 de Vries will get my full support aslong as he shows commitment next season. I have never liked the way we've played when de Vries has been in our team, but that's not his fault it's the rest of the players and the manager for wanting to hoof the ball at him. My main concern is that he might want to go, but with there not being any takers and him having suspect motivation skills then he'll be a waste of space here like he was at Hearts in his last season there. If he puts the work in though and no-one else comes in for him then i'll support him.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 I think he could be a very useful asset if we bring him on with 20 minutes to go and he makes a nuisance of himself up against the opposition centre-backs. What I like to call the Tricky Trev role.

Loake Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 If he loses a few punds and gains confidence he could be good.
Swedging Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 If he loses a few punds and gains confidence he could be good. In the pictures on the OS he does look a lot trimmer compared to last season.
bigneville Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 Every season i'll get behind every player in a Leicester shirt until they give me a reason for me to believe they shouldnt be in the team. Every year i'm prepared to give everyone a clean slate. So good luck to MDV. Hope he does well this season...
Wils Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 I dont have much faith in this bloke, however he could be a good squad player
dandannieldanok Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 I can't see him getting a chance ahead of hume or fryatt for the start. I don't really rate him at all as he only played well about 3 or 4 times last season unlike hume and fryatt. Also he is the wrong side of thirty and i doubt he will have lost weight. However if he gets his chance I will support him fully.
Phube Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 I know stats can always lie but: De Vries: 20 starts = 6 league goals Matty Fryatt: 18 starts = 6 league goals!! I know overall play counts, but it is a suprising stat!!

I know overall play counts, but it is a suprising stat!! He's the type of player who doesn't have any improvement in him, we've seen what he's got and it ain't a lot! Come on Mark I challenge you to prove me wrong
Wezleylowski Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 i think that mdv was shocking last season and his play was almost cringeworthy .i have seen more skill in a match down me local park, however im not going to curse the big man for this season so good luck mmmy deeeee
Swedging Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 de Vries does two things really well. Ball at his feet, when facing goal, he's a talented finisher. Better than Hume, to be honest. Ball at his feet, with back to goal, he shields it superbly ready to lay it off for someone coming from deep. But he's not great in the air, his turns are ponderous, he only likes to play in one position, he's never found the right man to play alongside while at Leicester and the service he was given was shocking last season. On his day, he is a fine player. I'm not distraught at seeing him back - making best use of him is still difficult, though.

Swedging Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 I see your point but I don't rate him as much as you clearly do. I don't rate him highly - I just don't think that he is a complete donkey.

Ric Flair Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 de Vries does two things really well. Ball at his feet, when facing goal, he's a talented finisher. Better than Hume, to be honest. Very debatable, although Hume is guilty of missing some very easy chances but de Vries even more so. The thing about de Vries is that he'll always get 2 or 3 decent chances per game where as other strikers might struggle to get that many and therefore have to be more clinical when they do get a chance.
