Thracian Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 Quick sign up bill shankly... oh he's dead. I don't see many managers/clubs making statements that are giving fans "goosebumps". I also doubt anyone but you and Ashley Chambers see the lack of a 15 year old on the squad list a significant event. I've mentioned lots of times that I don't give a damn what other clubs are doing. Why should be forever be followers of everyone else?. I would far rather we set our own standards and agenda. I mentioned Shankly simply as an example of someone with the sort of passion that got people going, made them feel that the club was a vital part of their life. That is missing and we could do with someone with such an inspiring charisma especially in view of the prospective empty seats. I mentioned Chambers because the likes of youths like Dodds, who has promise, Gradel who has much to learn, Porter who is creatively promising but inexperienced, Sheehan etc all have numbers and Chambers, who beat all but Sheehan to a first team game last season, has not got a number despite my belief that he is probably the best prospect of them all from what I've seen, which is quite a lot. If he's not in the squad because of school requirements fair enough but it would have be nice for the club to have said so rather than allowing him to simply disappear off the scene. I don't know how many times you've watched him but thought I was the one who was supposed to worry too much about age but in fact, I don't give two hoots how old people are if they are good enough. I would just rather have genuinely good youngsters than ordinary players drawing their last seasons pay. Good players I'd welcome anytime.
lcfc 4 life Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 RK said he wont be getting rid of any players. RK knows how good fryatt is and so does else. LCFC FANS DONT WORREY.
newms Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 why does everyone think we'd bite Brums hands off for £1.75milion. It was only in January that we signed Fryatt for £750,000-1 million. If we were that bothered about cash we wouldnt have signed him in the first place. The board would have known we'd be in this situation at best upon signing him. Fryatt would be the last player to leave and yes we can be choosey as we have a number of players that clubs would be interested in. Chambers hasnt got a squad number but I hardly think that matters. If he is that good then Kelly will give him his chance but in my opinion he has a long way to go. We have 5 first team strikers and also Dodds who scored more goals than Chambers last season at reserve level. He is also older and it is perhaps his last season to try and make an impact at this level. Chambers has atleast a couple of years to prove his worth.

Chambers was injured for much of the season and had England commitments abroad etc and therefore hardly played for the Reserves, particularly from December onwards. When he was playing again last two or three months of the season he was scoring regularly. I am not calling Dodds for a minute and, again, I don't know how often you've seen him play, but when I've watched, Chambers looks the most exciting Academy striker in the club.
newms Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 but when I've watched, Chambers looks the most exciting Academy striker in the club. As did Tommy Wright and every fan thought he would be the best thing since sliced bread, unfortunately it didnt happen. Leave it to the coaches when its time to decide. I trust Kelly's judgement and if Chambers continues to score at reserve level im sure he'll get his chance at Leicester or go out on loan to a lower league club (as should Dodds). Kelly has a good record of working with young players during his time at Blackburn and i'm sure he is more qualified than you to assert whether Chambers needs a squad number at the start of the season
Swedging Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 Bill Shankly, for example, oozed passion. His blood must have been LFC positive and 90% adrenalin. We badly need someone at Leicester like that - a public voice be it a coaching/managerial assistant, director, whatever. Someone who can give people goosebumps at the very mention of our club and someone who has the energy to see that promises are fulfilled. Either you're not as old as you pretend to be, or dementia must've set in. Shankly was never a 'public voice' when he was manager.
joyceys barmy army Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 BartonFox, do you ever have anything positive to say about the club? Is there not one bit of optimism in you? Or do you still think the club is going down or bankrupt this season? I'm just wondering what it is that makes you so pessimistic about the clubs chances and fortunes? I have always thought the same thing about Ric Flair, always pi**ing on people's parades

I don't see too many other Academy players having squad numbers either. I can't see Fryatt being sold to another club in our league. That would signal a chronic lack of ambition on the part of our board.

Or do you still think the club is going down or bankrupt this season? I'm just wondering what it is that makes you so pessimistic about the clubs chances and fortunes? Not at present no. We are shambolically run off the field and we have a pretty dreadful squad about to take us on another season of poor football. I am not being pessimistic, just realistic. Inspite of the run of results performances towards the end of the season were awful, it was no better than under Levein. By the time we got towards the last few games it was sheer hell watching that fair and now we have added Danny Tiatto again, 2 lower leaguers who don't exactly come with rave reviews and an ageing Andy Johnson. If someone can provide solid eveidence that we are in for a play off season then fire away. Sadly I reckon deep down most people know were are in for another horror show, but they just don't want to admit it. You know just in case they are being disloyal <_<
Phube Posted 10 July 2006 Posted 10 July 2006 Personally I believe Barton Fox is (or is related to) Gilbert Kinch!! (The bloke who keeps trying to get the club, and one of the 'Gang of Four'!!!) He's always criticising the club as well!!!

I just know, that even at my venerable old age, the butterflies are starting again, and I can't wait for the season to start. I'm not wearing blue-tinted specs, it's the way I always feel this time of the season - sometimes I am rewarded, most of the time I'm not - that comes with the territory of supporting City. If I'd wanted anything else, I'd have supported one of the big clubs, but I can say supporting City over the years has given me a great deal of pleasure. Can't wait for opening time at Luton on the 1st day of the season!

Even though I live down South, a friend of mine down here has parents who live in Gilbert's village - by all accounts he is a grade A tosser!

Can't wait for opening time at Luton on the 1st day of the season! Exactly. In a way it doesn't really matter whether we are battling for promotion or against relegation, I just crave that feeling I get just before kickoff whether I'm at the game or not, just willing that ball into the opposition net at whatever cost. After the cheating, diving, kicking, headbutting and hair-pulling histrionics of the World Cup it'll be nice to see the old City play fair and get beat time and time again...
Ultra Posted 10 July 2006 Posted 10 July 2006 Watford proved last season that even very modest teams can achieve promotion from this league. There's no reason why we can't do likewise. There are around 12-15 sides, including ourselves, of roughly similar standard. If we play with the inspiration and self-belief that was evident under RK last season, a top-half finish is well within our grasp.

I get as excited as the next guy about the season and the games but we just are not good enough this season. I see no point in false hopes that we might 'do a Watford' or trying to convince myself or others that we'll be okay. We were dreadful through April, even though we scraped 2 wins against Palace and Plymouth we were rank awful against Norwich, Coventry, Southampton and Preston. I presume those 4 are amonst that 12-15 Club group? Going on the form of our last 6 games we're on for about 50-54 points again

BartonFox Posted 10 July 2006 Posted 10 July 2006 Our form at the end of last season with all of the same squad bar Joey. What 7 points in April over 6 games playing rank bad football? Multiply that by 7 and you get 49 then add anything between 1-5 points for the remaining 4 games.

Surreal Madrid Posted 10 July 2006 Posted 10 July 2006 But still no denial on the Gilbert Kinch theory!!! Ask if he's got a PSV license - that'll settle it!
Finnegan Posted 10 July 2006 Posted 10 July 2006 I am not being pessimistic, just realistic. I **** hate that. It's phrase number 1 in the pessimist's phrase book. We've got a bright young strike partnership that showed signs of clicking into gear, we've signed a sturdy, proven playmaker at this level, we've the stadium and facilities of a midtable premiership outfit and most importantly - we're in a **** bollocks league. The standard of football from the majority of teams last year was poor, a good run of form (a strong start could prove vital), some confidence and fifteen / twenty goals a season from Fryatt and Hume could do us wonders. I'm not saying we're going to win the league, get promoted or get a top-half spot but I am saying that our squad quality / depth isn't vastly inferior compared to the rest of the league. With the exception of a few really terrible sides, the top six is anyone's for the taking. I mean, seriously, with the exception of maybe Birmingham - who is going to come to the Walker's next year and expect to take three points?
BartonFox Posted 10 July 2006 Posted 10 July 2006 But still no denial on the Gilbert Kinch theory!!! Gilbert Kinch, hmmm, I was dead against him and the other 3 perhaps in hindsight we should have backed them. Then we wouldn't have been burdened with Peter Taylor and the whole administration thing. I still yearn for the day Martin George will come back and sort us out again.
