For once take off the fox shaped blue tinted specs and look at the real picture. What kind of statement is that?

Coventry have an excellent squad for the new season and it pains me greatly to admit that, I hate the SBS detest them but sometimes you have to be honest.

The Billy Davies factor will ensure Derby have a good season and we don't beat Billy Davies's teams.

Southend are a damn sight better that you or everyone else on here seem to be giving them credit for, you should show them some respect.

And finally who the f'ck refers to the Walkers Stadium as 'the Way'?!?!? lol

You don't sound very casual Barton Fox? You must have noticed that most people on this board don't agree with your stance or pessimistic views. The fact is you may actually have 1 or 2 reasonable points but it may be an idea to let the season pan out a little before so vehemently shooting it down. Realistically, ahead of the new season I don't think you should be so negative to our team or other posters if you wish to actually get your views listened too, which, afterall is the reason we all log onto this.

Aaah, now we're getting to the crux of the matter. Are you an admirer of Micky Adams, wishing he was back with us?

What? Are you 13 or something?

If you refuse to accept that Admas has assembled a decent squad at the wrong end of the M69 then you need your head reading. It looks as if MA has learnt from his previous mistakes both here and with the SBS, but I wouldn't want him here he screwed his chance with us.

Well he's at Derby now, and they NEVER beat us

Yip you are 13!!!

They're not Barcelona FFS. I'd be amazed if they finish outside the bottom 6. They certainly shouldn't be within 15 points of us.

Never said they would but your lack of respect or knowledge of them confirms exactly what I expected.

No-one's asking you to live in lairy, fairy hippo-land. But we don't have a terrible squad and once more we've got a manager that's largely untested with an entire season of his own to work with after a full summer's break to prepare. The fact of the matter is this ([/the Rock]), the coming season is a great unknown for the lot of us - predicting Leicester to be in the drop zone is just as stupid as claiming we'll certainly be in the top three; and claiming that half the league will expect to take three points away from the Walkers' is simple, pessimistic lunacy.

It's not about "accepting everything the club has thrown at us", it's about looking at the prospects on offer with as much three-dimensionalism as possible. I'm open minded about the new season and I think we've potentially got the opportunity to witness the best young crop of City players of the last decade develope into a bonded, functional unit. I think the play-offs look a long, long way away but the summer's proving too long already and frankly I'm boyishly giddy in anticipation of the new footballing year.

If you don't want to share my realism, my open-mindedness, then fair enough, you're welcome to your opinion. But I'll be all the readier to wipe in your face, the shagging of Saaarf'ehnd at the Walkers' and you can be all the readier to quote me on that if we lose.

We finished 16th last season what makes you think that teams will fear coming to Leicester?

It might have escaped you but we play in a stadium that is 2/3's full at best, soul-less and as intimidating as a facing an angry mob of toddlers.

How you can say this is the best crop of City players for a decade is beyond me, that will be the same crop that finished in the Club's lowest league position in 15 years?

Alright Ultra calm down

I’m glad your confident, and obviously I hope you are right to be, however I don’t see us making any kind of serious promotion challenge next season.

Southend will give a good account of themselves next season I reckon, even if they do lack talents of Ronaldinho Lionel Messi and Carlos Puyol. Adams has assembled a half decent squad at Cov, don’t be surprised to see them do better then us next season.

Our midfield is week and lacking depth, our strikers are young and will both need to have blistering seasons if we are to make any impact on this division, we still lack a good natural left back. We have two Centre half’s who find themselves in the book regularly and a unproven League Two defender and Euro trash to cover, our manager doesn't fill me with confidence RE Weslowski and Stearmen, comments he has made throughout the summer leads me to believe he's going to have neither of them in the side come August 5th. IMO it aint looking rosy, the only real decent proven player we have signed is AJ and he will struggle to fill Joeys boots creatively and is not going to get you the goals Joey did either.

This all my take on it of course, Williams could finally kick on and perform for Leicester and Hughes could recapture his old form, Rob Kelly may indeed be attempting to take the pressure off the younger players by saying they wont be playing as much. Mcarthy may actually learn to behave himself and Mcauley may be up to it at this level. Most important of all, our promising strike force may bang in 35+ goals for us.

It's to many ifs and buts for me and I don’t see it all coming together, if we can somehow get a top half finish that will be a good platform to build on for next season if we can keep other teams away from our players and add another 3 or 4 in key positions.

I know Southend shouldn’t come to "the way" expecting a win, but unfortunately they are playing the above set of players not Leicester Citys reputation.

Manwell,

I agree with some points of your post. Yes the squad isn't as good as it could be and we haven't really signed any major talents yet and there's no signs of anyone else coming in. But there are signs of improvement from the start of last season compared to now. The strikers have a lot of promise and have the potential to score 20 goals each. The defence was improving as a unit although it also showed weakness. We have a couple of young players who can cement there places in the side like Stearman, Weslokski, O'Grady & Chambers (Just for Thracian). Improvement is all you can ask. Do you BartonFox really think the squad now is worse than the squad at the start of last season?

We're signing players with promise, ok they've not proved it yet. But we gotta have a little optimism and hope for the best. I'm not saying we're top 6 and i have never said that. But I do believe that we are better in terms of belief in the squad and the talent of the manager.

Whats the point of being pessmistic and then being suprised if we do well like BartonFox does?

All i want to see on here is realism as well as optimism, as I agree with people who are saying promotion is coming, as I dont see it like that. But i do see a top 14 side. Which is better than what we where last season. So it annoys me when supposed fans dont "keep the faith" in order to back the side and get behind them to maybe help them over-achieve in the league.

So my conclusion is, even if you dont think we're the best side in the league (which we're not) at least get behind the side and have a bit of belief in the fact that the side is improving and not going backwards.

And this wasnt a personal dig at you Manwell as i respect a lot of your views. I just wanna see the fans get behind the team and not just put them down like a couple of fans do on here.

I just don't think most of you seem to understand. Key reasons that this cannot be true and the issue does not need discussion;

1) He is not what Birmingham are looking for. They are after good, proven players; players like John & Hasselbaink. Bruce has probably barely heard of Fryatt. They will not be trying to sign him.

2) If there was a bid of anything over £1m for any of our players it would be accepted without even thinking about it. Telling them to 'sod off' is not an option.

That's not strictly true. There are certain players in our squad that we'd sell for anything over a million but Fryatt and Stearman wouldn't go for that. From what i've been told we've had bigger bids than that for both of them and it's been turned down, nothing has changed drastically to mean we need to sell players for knock-down prices.

Should a club offer near £2 million for any of our players then sadly they will be off and although i'd be pissed off should this happen, it would be a big return on what we paid for Fryatt just 6 months ago (£350,000 upfront and a further £100,000 for staying up.)

I can't see a team taking a £2 million risk on Fryatt just yet, they might fancy a dabble at £1 million but we'd resist a bid of that much. As Barton has said though, should Fryatt have a blinding start ala Connolly then it's possible he'll be gone.

I think and hope he'll stay until atleast January. By that time he'll have scored 10-15 goals and he'll be worth as much as good young lower league players go for £3 million plus

How many of Joeys goals were pennos? Does anyone know? It must have been about half so his goal scoring contribution is being over played in my eyes, and he certainly isn't creative.

Joey scored 9 or 10 last season and 5 or 6 were penalties.

Balls through to De Vries v Spurs and Hume V Crewe spring to mind, and IMO you dont get much more creative then scoreing from the half way line!

You don't get more creative than making a defender look a fool and turning him before ripping in a 25 yarder against Stoke or have a bash from 40 yards against Millwall that was wrongfully not adjudged to be over the line.

Fear not Johnson's here. :D

Again, something that has potential to be remedied in the new season. A few good results at the start of the year and I wouldn't be surprised to see the fickle return. Besides, I've never been a profesional footballer (surprisingly) - but I would be genuinely surprised if managers make their pre-game preperations based on the 12th man, somehow.

How you can say this is the best crop of City players for a decade is beyond me, that will be the same crop that finished in the Club's lowest league position in 15 years?

Have you ever considered tabloid journalism? That was a fantastic misquote, kudos.

I think we've potentially got the opportunity to witness the best young crop of City players of the last decade develope into a bonded, functional unit.

When in the last seven or eight years (a decade may have been an exageration) have we had as many young, promising players in one city side? And I mean genuine promise, players that look like they'll develope into good players for this level (and some of them, maybe, beyond)?

I'm not going to make excuses for our league position because it's irrelevant - where you finished is where you finished, the end. However, I am willing to look at the places we climbed in the last few months of the season and accepted the posibility the Kelly is, simply, a better tactician than CL. Maybe it was just a honeymoon period with a caretaker, it usually happens, maybe not. But you won't know until August.

Edit. Oh, and RE Micky Adams:

Micky Adams got us promoted on no resources, why on Earth would anyone think he couldn't do the same at Cov? I hate Cov, I'd love to see them relegated - but I have to say it's unlikely.

have you been on the "NHS prescription" crack again phubey. Players player of the season, fans player of the season, goal of the season, now playing Erdervsie and UEFA Cup football. Good player.

I'm sorry, I just don't see it myself!! :dunno:

But hey that's why we like football; it's a game of differing opinions (and then there's Barton Fox!! lol )

Crystal ball in need of an MOT, Barton??? :D

He'll be in hiding for a few days until this thread slips away onto the 2nd page or so.

Our BartonFox never likes to be wrong, and when he is he'll disappear for a while hoping that people will have forgotten.

is that the coventry John? or the fulham john? because if its coventrys then they will find this season hard, he is abut the only player who scores for them.
