Monk Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 Falls flat on his face at Villa? I certainly do! Two teams I've disliked since I was a nipper, Celtic and Villa ..............and can someone tell me. Is his wife ok now? Allen I've done a grill thread for you, but you are so behind today it has fallen onto page 2 of General Chat. I hate Villa, but not in the same way I hate Derby. I wish O'Niell well, I don't particularly want him to fall on his face as he is a leg! But I hope he returns them to mid table mediocrity rather than any kind of dizzy heights. Does anyone know if he is taking his backroom team with him or not?

TAFKA Castroneves Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 Its reported on SSN that Martin O'Neill has signed for Villa no matter who the chairman is.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 Enlighten me then Should just be "Who hopes", not "Who hope's" YES I'M BEING PICKY TONIGHT I meant it in a loving way

John Robertson named as assistant, Walford as coach.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 I hope he is successful there. I bear no particular hatred towards Villa. It must have been extremely frustrating to have David O'Leary as manager (one notch under Souness and two under Peter Reid on my "How do they still get managerial jobs?!" list - mind you, can't see any of those three managing a big club ever again). I just love the guy, he is a top bloke and a true Leicester City legend (an overused word but definitely fits in this case).

I understand how he is held in such high regard at City but IMO Brian Little deserve's just as much respect but is generally vilified. I know his departure left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouth's but at the end of the day they've both ended up at the same place.
dandannieldanok Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 I hope he does well but not too well if you get what i mean.
Ultra Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 It's good to see him back. Both Villa and the Premiership need him. Look forward to seeing him bringing his side to the Way asap...

I know his departure left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouth's but at the end of the day they've both ended up at the same place. I dunno. The vast majority of what Little achieved, arguably, was in that first season where we were promotion contenders instead of relegation contenders. We didn't improve much under him after that in my eyes. Under O'Neill we were a decent second division side that he transformed into an established Premiership club with two major honours in the bag. I agree Little's spell is underrated because of the manner of his departure but I think O'Neill's achievements at the club were greater.

spirefox Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 I know I should have moved on, but watching MON taking charge at Villa was like a dagger to my heart.Did nobody else bat an eyelid?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 I know I should have moved on, but watching MON taking charge at Villa was like a dagger to my heart.Did nobody else bat an eyelid? There are bits and pieces about this in the General Football & Sport forum, which this will probably be moved to, but yeah I have to say it got to me a bit.
Maybes Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 I know I should have moved on, but watching MON taking charge at Villa was like a dagger to my heart.Did nobody else bat an eyelid? Oh well, half my family are villa fans, they are delighted with the appointment.
dave_1988 Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 I'm happy that O'Neill is back in England and I wish him a lot of success, but at the same time I'm dissappointed he's gone to Villa because he should be taking charge of a club of much greater stature - Villa have won a few trophies down the years but I thought his next job should have been one of the top 5 clubs in the Premier League. After managing Celtic this is a step back for him rather than a step forward.
spirefox Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 They would be,I don't think Villa ever beat us whilst MON was our manager.
Bluefoxtim Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 Did you see the thing on SSN showing his career? showed leicester winning trophies and that day against leeds when all the fans had the 'don't go martin' signs
Ricey Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 It doesn't bother me that he's gone to Villa, I don't really see Villa as local rivals and I don't dislike them. Good luck to MO'N, I hope they have a good season.
Thracian Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 Altogether I've found it a miserable close season what with England, the loss of Reserves football, City's seeming lack of ambition - and now this comes to finally push the goolies through the mangle. Will the curtain ever lift to reveal daylight this season?
bigneville Posted 4 August 2006 Posted 4 August 2006 It's a shame such a man left our club, but we shall not be bitter.. Good Luck Martin At Aston Villa.....
