Gamesmaster Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 Noticed it catching the bus on the last 3 city games. That area is hardly recognisable in sound now a days.
golden gordon Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 i'm not sure what you mean is this a belated observation that leicester is a multi-cultural city ? or is it that of all the languages heard in the area , its just polish that you don't understand ? can you expand a little as i left foxland about 20 years ago and from what i remember that area was quite cosmopolitan then
Guest Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 No, he means they cleaned it up a bit. Got the Mr Muscle out, or summat.
Dr The Singh Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 I'm from Narborough road, what do you mean, gamesmaster ????????? If you mean it's very polish an in many people from poland, well tbh honest the face the narborough constantly changes, it used to be a good balance of all cultures whereby it was majority 'white', then we had a student invasion which upset the balance, they left to bring in a influx of refugees and tbh haven't noticed the influx of polish people but that's inner city life accross many city's not just ours, there's alot of positives and alot of negatives. I don't want to go deep but councils\governments must be very careful in keeping a balance and not to upset the communities and folk that live there!!!! If you mean it's polish, as in nice, then i'm even more suprised. Braunstone Gate has a few bars and used to be quite upmarket but scava and chavs from surrounding areas have turned it into a drunken squaller!!!!
golden gordon Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 I think he means it's very polished i've heard of french polish , does he mean everyone is speaking french i'm vey confused now
Master Fox Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 i've heard of french polish , does he mean everyone is speaking french i'm vey confused now Polished african french people speaking English i think?
Rincewind Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 I was tempted to ask what these people were wearing that made him think they were Polish. But I wont go down that road. Not been down that way for a while except when I'm being transported to or from work. Not many people about early in the morning. I had always assumed this was because many of the residents were students. That could actually explain it. Polish people may be the only ones who have draggged themselves out of their pit..
The Don Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 My Girlfriend lives on Narbrough road, and walk down that way some mornings. The only polish things I have noticed is that a lot of shops sell Polish newspapers and specialised polish food - don't know what that is?? It is quite nice down there with a multitude of different shops from all walks of life, but its not the nicest at night!
Dunc Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 Live just off Narborough Road and there has been a influx of Polish people but thats much of England since they got into the EU not just Leicester. They aren't too much of a problem though, bit loud at times but at least they do something about it when you ask them to keep it down unlike some students/chavs etc. There is a Polish bar opened opposite the international supermarket and the shops are selling polish goods but apart from that its the same old same old. I believe its more noticeable as the students are generally back til September and a number of houses are let to Polish people whilst they are away.
Matt Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 I've learnt basic polish from the polish lads at work, it mostly consists of swearing and insulting phrases. When they first come to work with us they seemed VERY ignorant but that really nice now, you can have a good laugh with them. I think when they first come they didn't know much English at the time there was a few people at work who didn't really accept or like them being there but those people have now left, they have learnt abit more English been accepted.
Finnegan Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 Mate, I used to think Leicester was amazingly multicultural. Now... I don't. You walk down the road, see a few Polish newspapers, hear a few people speaking Polish - that's very nice. I walk down the road and I'm lucky to hear someone speaking English. I'm not suggesting there's anything wrong with that, before anyone has a dig. Just saying, like. Somali, Polish, Turkish, French, Czech, Russian, Spanish, Portugese and maybe, if you're lucky, a bit of English.

Dr The Singh Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 yes i agree its a bit too much isn't it, I have lived on narborough road since birth and I tend to agree, the balance isn't right and people of the community are worried if not upset at the inbalance. This then allows groups of different communities being able to ignore the english language etc, but what bothers me is the longterm effects and integration!!!
Deathside Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 I'm sure I saw Lech Walesa down there the other week Took me back to those heady days of Solidarnosc and the strikes at Gdansk A true life story of worker's power that has already been forgotten in the history archieves but which had such major impact on Europe - Especially Eastern Europe
Finnegan Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 yes i agree its a bit too much isn't it, Oh, I live in North London btw.
cisono Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 It's not just Narborough Rd. The Asian guy who sold me new tyres the other day had two Polish mechanics working for him (Evington) - one could not speak any English. Whether I go to Morrisons or visit a shop in town, every week I seem to run into some Polish people. Many Polish people have come across to look for work here. They are industrious people who work hard, so that's not surprising. Don't forget that the the original Polish wave (Polish immigration to Leicester) was in the 1950s (or thereabouts) and what we are experiencing is probably a new Polish wave!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 I love how talking about the influx of people from other countries into your community = racism. What a giant leap of the imagination.

cisono Posted 23 August 2006 Posted 23 August 2006 two polish waves , it's a bit like "wax on wax off" No, the old Polish wave are still here (most of them anyway), so there was not an "off" as such
Gamesmaster Posted 23 August 2006 Author Posted 23 August 2006 funny LOT. The language has changed, yes to a more Polish feel. As i walk down the street of Narborough rd, i walk past people who i think are English, and as i get to them, a Polish speaking language flows. Its not one or two, its 99%. Has anyone else noticed youngish men hanging around between the 2 ladbrokes? Some have shaven heads, with tatoo's and big muscles. They look at you like you dont belong there, like they own the place Yes Don, you're right about it at night. Shifty looking geezers stand around, asking for things from you, quite shocking. I wont do it Do they have to stand directly INFRONT of you? You have a point Sosbanfach, the chances of hearing a English person on non match days is bleak. The Singh has a point. Some areas now do not represent Englishness at all now. The English did not vote for this, but our politicial masters have forced us to lose part of our English society. In some respects, the area of Narborough rd has become isolated from the rest of the native people. First highfields, then belgrave, now narborough rd. Wheres next? Next year, millions of Romanians and Bulgarians will be eligable to live in England, when they join the EU. Fez, there is nothing racist talking about foreign influx. We dont live in a totally supressed society just yet...
Trumpet Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 Old post i know, but its probably the only one which i could fit this little rant in... Does anyone else have problems with Polish people? I have personally grown to hate them thanks to the tw*ts next door. Gobbing on both of our cars ( Im 100% sure its them) - Getting up at 5am tommorow to catch them at it and anyother day until i find out. They go up the street at 4am, drunk, kicking down bins whilst screaming like girls. They all look the same, short, with short brown hair (Mostly with a backpack) Take the piss with their music, when we bang on the wall they just bang back. Their food stinks like cat piss and cabbage. I think its Pol'er bashin time!

Trumpet Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 Sure they are not students? Migrant workers, like the rest.
