My (Polish) brother in law was complaining the other day about the rumoured casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy cos she’s not white.

Bruv. Her dad was the God of Thunder who disguised himself as a swan to court a princess. She literally hatched out of an egg.

I'll reserve further judgement until I've seen the movie.

Elliott Page as Achilles would be such a downgrade from Brad Pitt. lol

Don’t get me wrong I’m looking forward to The Odyssey but I saw a comment the other day that really resounded: All the actors look and sound like they’ve seen an IPhone.

It’s picky but I am disappointed Nolan has ran with the American accents.

Odyssey will be movie of the year imho

Tough ask, with the Super Mario Galaxy movie earning nearly $1b, and Project Hail Mary over $640m.

The Odyssey needs to get past $625m at minimum in order to be considered profitable.

I like Christopher Nolan's output a lot, second behind Denis Villeneuve for me, personally.

With the Odyssey, I think he's produced another dud. If you know the Critical Drinker, look up his trailer review. I share those sentiments.

The casting doesn't sit right with me, this film lacks grandeur, class, heavyweights, whatever you want to call it – none of these names impress me. Matt Damon as the protagonist? I'm not buying it.

And then there's the questions surrounding the historical accuracy.

And the use of modern lingo. "Daddy". WTF?

Apparently, this adaptation is based on a feminist's interpretation of the original story. Emily Wilson is her name.

DEI continues to ruin movie-making.

And that's a shame.

Citing historical accuracy on a fictional story which includes references to gods & mystical characters such as a nymph & a cyclops whilst scholars/historians can’t agree if half the locations actually exist is a vibe

Well, the armour and ships depicted in this movie have been the source of much contention ever since the first stills were published.

Add to that the type of (modern) language used.

I do also expect much more grandeur from an adaptation of the Odyssey. Compare this movie's cast to Troy, it's night and day.

Yes, it is a myth. At the same token, it is rooted in history. Sure, some contents were made up or embellished. A "cyclops" or a "giant" could've just simply meant a disfigured or unusually tall person, for instance.

That's the fun part about archeology. You never know what you'll find next.

Everybody thought Troy was a fantasy, until Schliemann came along (following a hint from Frank Calvert).

Watched expendables 3, been a long time since i watched it defo the best movie in the franchise in terms of casting amd action. I swear theres no actual script they just make up as they go along and each day another hollywood action actor turns up. Who would have thought a short scene between arnold swaznegger and harrison ford could be so entertaining. Hope a fifth film is in works to make up for the bad forth film.

Be so good to see likes of Will Smith, Peirce Brosnan, Daniel Craig, Keanu Reeves, Liam Neeson be part of this franchise.

Point Blank (1967) in 4K

Grand.

Lee Marvin as a man on a mission to hell.

And then there's Angie Dickinson.

Yes as  youth I remember a certain interest in the talent and charms of Ms Dickinson.

Death Game (1977)

00000.mpls_snapshot_00.08.26_%5B2022.09.

Seymour Cassel's character gets a home invasion from two young women, one of them played by Sondra Locke (Clint Eastwood's long-time companion).

Fun fact: Bill Paxton and Sissy Spacek did the props for this film.

Remade in 2015 as Knock Knock, with Keanu Reeves as the lonely husband.

Way worse than the original, and rather comical at times.

The reviews for The Mandalorian and Grogu are in and boy does it sound underwhelming.

Sounds like they're very much sticking to the tried and tested format of main character going somewhere to do a thing, doing that thing (and occasionally having to do something else that wasn't part of the plan, then doing the thing that was) before going somewhere else to do something slightly different, keep repeating over 3 seasons
