fox123 Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 With away games to West Brom, Sunderland and Birmingham and 2 home games against Hull and Colchester, i think this is the toughest month that we will have this season, how many points do you think we could gain this month i think 11 is achievable with 3 wins and 2 draws but 8 more likely with 2 wins and 2 draws

I do think that this month will decide wether we will be good enough to get to play-offs or wether we will be an average mid table team (AGAIN!)
Daggers Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 With away games to West Brom, Sunderland and Birmingham and 2 home games against Hull and Colchester, i think this is the toughest month that we will have this season, how many points do you think we could gain this month i think 11 is achievable with 3 wins and 2 draws but 8 more likely with 2 wins and 2 draws This becomes a difficult month only because teams have signed new players that will be keen to make their mark...but as ever, I'll be happy with an average of 3 points from home and 1 from away games ~ 9 in total. More than that and I'll be delighted. West Brom and Brum will be tough fixtures - but I really don't see them as being in a different class to us and therefore think these are winable games. Best of all, I'm looking forward to cycling home celebrating wins instead of spending hours trying to get out of Leicester! Sunderland and Hull are re-invigorated. Both of these games I'd have put down as 3 point bankers, but not this week. We'll have to work very hard as a team to take points from these games. I suspect we'll leave the North East with nothing but if lady luck shines we'll take the full prize against Hull. Colchester has to be three points, anything less really isn't good enough but I think we have it within us to do it.
OBO Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 I think we might sneak a point away at West Brom, perhaps that's a little optimistic, but I'd like to think we can at least get something out of Brom and Brum away, and I fancy Brum to beat us more than West Brom. I think we can have Sunderland. I know they'll be 're-invigorated' but a couple of new signings aside their squad is pretty poor, and I think Keane is going to have to do a LOT of shouting at them and change things around a lot before they start charging up the table. At least a draw anyway. Hull and Colchester should really be 3 points from each, but something is bound to go wrong, I think we all know that there is no point approaching a match thinking it's a given win, because a lot of the time, it bloody isn't! (Rotherham on boxing day a couple of years ago anyone?!)
Tommeh Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 I'd be happy if we're still in 11th place come the end of the month gettin another 7 points 2 wins (colchester and Hull) 1 draw (possibly Wba 2 defeats ( Brum and Sunderland). As long as we can stay within 5 points of the play-offs after christmas we'll have done really well. Then we'll have to push on and show what we're really made of.
Ric Flair Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 It's a hard month ahead of us, especially with our strikers not on form at all. But the majority of fans expected us to be a mid table outfit this season and I still expect that so I can't see how this month will really shape our season. Obviously 5 wins would put us in a position that fans would start to think it's our season and 5 losses would strike a revolt. I think we'll probably be on 14-15 points if we're lucky after this month.
Tommeh Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 Promotions and relegations are not decided in september. Iy'll really hot up during the Chrismas period as long as we keep picking up 3 points every few games we'll be fine
syston_fox Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 West Brom (away) - depends which WBA team show up. They can be brilliant one game and shocking the next despite starting with the same 11. Phillips and Hartson up front worry me as I feel WBA have the quality to punish us at set pieces if Kisnorbo, Paddy and co aren't right on their game. Hull (home) - home game against a team in trouble, bottom with only the one point from five games. This is the type of game we normally drop points in so we have to stop that and get the three points here. We cant afford performances like Millwall, Crewe and Brighton at home last season if we're serious about pushing for the top half. Sunderland (away) - I dont see us getting anything here. Keanes first home match in charge, 6 players to possibly make their home debuts and I can see the home section selling out for this one and they will be expecting a big performance from their team. If we want anything then we have to shut the crowd up early on and really battle hard for everything. I really rate Kavanagh and we all know what Connolly can do at this level. Colchester (home) - as with Hull, this is the type of game we dont normally win. Nothing less than three points is acceptable in my opinion. Birmingham (away) - another very tough away game. They've made a decent start but Cardiff showed that they are very suspect against pace so this may be the type of game that Hume and Fryatt can shine in. Fryatt playing right on the line and some good through balls from the midfield could be the difference between the two teams. In reality I can see us getting 7 points. 2 home wins and one point away. At best we can hope for is 10 in my opinion and I'd be more than happy with that return from the 5 games. The two home matches are crucial though. We cannot really afford to drop points on them or we'll be dragged back down to the bottom three. I know its still early in the season but its never good to be looking back over your shoulder as it sets the fear of relegation off again.
davieG Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 To get anything decent out of the 2 home games we're going to need a change of biblical proportions when you consider the last time we recorded 2 back to back home league wins was May 2005. It's a massive ask to now make that 4 home wins on the trot. Can we do it who knows? But one thing I wont be doing is putting my life savings on the line for it, and that's only a couple of quid

Miracles can happen.
Manwell Pablo Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 In RE to Sunderland, Roy Keane may have bought himself some useful players but it remains to be seen if he can get them to perform for him yet. The six faces will take time to settle as well.
lookwhaticando Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 Wake me up when September ends Oh dear.
Guest Gist Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 I think we will Beat Hull and Colchester and Draw against both Sunderland and West Brom and lose to Brum. So I think we will get 8 points or is that a little too optimistic.
Wils Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 I think well beat Colchester and Birmingham draw against WBA and Sunderland loose too Hull. Total 8 Points. Id take that.
Floating Fox Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 I would say we Need a minuiumum of 5 points An achieavble target would be 9 points ?
lildave3 Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 With away games to West Brom, Sunderland and Birmingham and 2 home games against Hull and Colchester I fancy something against West Brom, we're going in on the back of a decent run and they've just lost to sunderland. Plus Davies is out for 10 weeks... Sunderland and Brum will be tough though, no doubt. Should beat Colchester and Hull imo
filbertway Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 Some people have high hopes for us, I hope were not all moaning if we dont pick up 10 points from these games.
Thracian Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 As usual it depends on our team and our attitude towards trying to win. I always feel Kelly reverts to containment mode whenever he perceives we're up against a good team and that frightens me to death because the team we started the season with is just not good enough. We need to concentrate on what we can do well which, with the right players, is cover quickly, pass well in possession, pose problems down the flanks and a present a genuine scoring threat in the middle. I think four points from Hull and Colchester ought to be attainable with an attacking line up but that we need to continue being positive in the away games, otherwise all three could be lost. Having beaten Charlton and Tottenham in our recent history and drawn over 90 minutes atBolton with the most negative approach imaginable we have no need to fear the likes of WBA,Sunderland and Birmingham. But we do need to have belief in our players and what they do best. Calmness, quick-thinking, concentration and good passing can win those away games but they'll be a test for Kelly's motivational abilities, I'm sure of that. Predictions? Four points from the away games making eight in all from the five matches.
lookwhaticando Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 I don't think he's switched back to his six defenders experiment since our first two games. So he's not going wild about containment. I don't think Rob's as mad about defensiveness as you think, Thrac. He's certainly not as bad as CL, who decided 4-5-1 was the way to go on the road at places like Burnley. I think RK, above all, prefers to keep his starting eleven the same as much as possible. This tactic takes priority over all considerations about the opposition - from what I can tell. I don't recall him changing his lineup for a league game based on the opposition - only on squad availability. I think that's one of his advantages. CL's approach to games like Burnley away played a part in his downfall. I don't think RK's going to follow that path.
