DB11 Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 I'm keeping Windows XP on my computer (not laptop) as I use that for gaming and not all games are 100% compatible with Vista I've heard. Vista on the laptop will just be to make it easier to use etc. and look better
Joe. Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 Only grumble I have with Vista is that my Creative Zen MP3 software isn't compatible with it. But that's not even Vista's fault. So overall, I'm very happy with it.
MC Prussian Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Got my desktop PC today. And - what can I say? Apart from a rather anxious-ridden start and some serious thoughts about my purchase, everything went smooth. It just takes a bit to get used to the new user surface and the new integrated add-ons, like the right-hand side clock/slideshow. For some reason, it looks as if Microsoft has copied a few things from Apple... Aero's a nice addition, although I've yet to discover its true purpose. Running Kaspersky for the first time EVER and it's already way better than that bloody Norton I've got on my laptop. No slow-downs at all.
FilboFox Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Sounds like the usual windows nightmare.... Windows Vista MAC OSX Nice one! Big up the Mac's! Why people still choose PC's over Mac's stuns me! Why do you think that all major companies and everything on TV is done with Mac's now... they are better. Full Stop.
lookwhaticando Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Why do you think that all major companies and everything on TV is done with Mac's now...   The answer is because you're on drugs. Gotta tell you... nowhere near all major companies use Macs. Most major companies are still Windows powered, and those that aren't - in all industries but creative ones - are powered by a Unix-based OS, most likely Linux. Macs are only big in creative industries, everywhere else, they're #2 or #3.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 My new phone's USB connection software isn't compatible with Vista. Help.
Joe. Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 My new phone's USB connection software isn't compatible with Vista.Help. Erm... what phone is it? Some phones don't actually need software to transfer files from computer to phone.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Erm... what phone is it? Some phones don't actually need software to transfer files from computer to phone. Samsung G600. I plugged it in and it doesn't seem to recognise it. Going to try again tonight.
Joe. Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Samsung G600. I plugged it in and it doesn't seem to recognise it. Going to try again tonight. Hmmm. Just try going straight to My Computer and see if it recognises it as a removable disk.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Hmmm.Just try going straight to My Computer and see if it recognises it as a removable disk. Yeah that's what I meant, it doesn't recognise it. I think I might just have to use another computer.
potter3 Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Yeah that's what I meant, it doesn't recognise it. I think I might just have to use another computer. I guess your phone has Bluetooth? If so get a bluetooth dongle. Mine cost a fiver from Aldi and works fine.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 I guess your phone has Bluetooth? If so get a bluetooth dongle. Mine cost a fiver from Aldi and works fine. A-ha. Intriguing. Thank you Harold, I shall look into it.
The People's Hero Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 My new phone's USB connection software isn't compatible with Vista.Help. Have you checked the phone manufacturer's website to see if alternative provisions are made for those using Vista?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Stop asking me questions. I'm a simple man of simple means and methods. Everything will turn out fine. Stop worrying.
James. Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Stop asking me questions. I'm a simple man of simple means and methods.Everything will turn out fine. Stop worrying. I have a question. Is Vista worth getting? I think they threw in a free upgrade with my laptop when I bought it but I haven't had it done yet. I am also a simple man. Do I really need it?

The bright colours and smooth graphics appeal to me. I have no idea whether it's any good. It depends whether you're asking if it appeals to similarly simple people or whether it is in fact of use to man or beast?

It depends whether you're asking if it appeals to similarly simple people or whether it is in fact of use to man or beast? Bright colours and smooth graphics you say. I think I'm in. I really have no desire to find out if it will be of USE to me. As long as I can still watch DVD's, download free stuff, post shit on here and other simple things I'll be happy. If I can do it smoothly with bright colours then I'll be very happy. Vista it is.

We're free spirits. If it feels good, we do it. Changing operating system on the advice of someone who is clearly a dimwit? I'm there. Plymouth away in a Yaris driven by a lunatic in a bobble hat? Count me in. Fancy doing a two-week Interrail around Europe with me in the summer?

Fez of Mahrez Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Banana Bar, Amsterdam, loaded up on Heineken and some special fungi? I'm all over it. That's sorted then. Alex is coming too, he just doesn't want to say yes yet. And TPH if Europe accepts Monopoly money. And Monk will go anywhere.
