Head Honcho Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 RUBBISH! Saw bits of it last night. What a pile of crap! Don't get me started I did try and fit them into this thread but didn't want to upset anyone! http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.ph...mp;#entry400226

Suffolk_fox Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 Personally I can't stand any award ceremonies, let alone racially exclusive ones like MoBo's....
Dr The Singh Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 Personally I can't stand any award ceremonies, let alone racially exclusive ones like MoBo's.... Agreed, I still don't get the MOBO's, I would have thought that these (racially exclusive) things would have moved on!!! My question was a general one, was the performances crap, the PA etc?????????
Suffolk_fox Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 Apparently, one of the prize winners Beyonce, didn't turn up or even record an acceptance video. She was in the country too. She got boo'd next time her name was mentioned.

My question was a general one, was the performances crap, the PA etc????????? I suppose an intense dislike of 99.9% of any kind of Rap and modern RnB has clouded my judgement. I just don't get it, it's rubbish! I used to regularly go to Southport for the Soul Weekenders but it's been swamped by this rubbish so don't bother now
Finnegan Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 The MoBos aren't racially exclusive. It's music of black origin, not music by black people. Besides, you talk about racial equality in awards ceremonies and then you look at the oscars. In seventy seven years and one hundred and fifty four best actor / actress accademy awards - three have been won by black actors / actresses; and one of those it could well be argued was a highly tokenistic gesture (like most things in the Oscars) when Dme Judi Dench could and should have easily walked away with it after Iris. I didn't personally watch the MoBos, they might have been wank, two of my friends from work went for free (as one of them was helping to organise it) and I'm sure they'll let me know, but that's a daft moan in my book.

If i'm not correct didn't all modern music (pop) originate from black music (jaz and soul)?????
Fez of Mahrez Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 It's a bit of a misleading name, surely it means... I can hardly bring myself to call it this but... urban music? It doesn't encompass all music of black origin but it's mostly RnB, soul, hip hop, garage etc isn't it? The fact that I have ended both my statements with question marks suggests that I don't really have a clue.

Don't kid yourself! Take a look at the audience and nominees I'll give you a tenner for every white artist featured in this MOBO website intro: http://www.mobo.net/ As regards to the Oscars, there's no doubting their racial bias in years gone by but Halle Berry best actress for Monsters Ball don't make me laugh! Name me one black actor/actress who was hard done by for the best actor/actress award? Sissy Spacek was robbed when Halle Berry won hers

If you want to put them on a level footing, then the Oscars could be called, Oscars for films of white origin. You know damn well that if that were the case there would be uproar.

Discotheque Robert is either writing a novel of War And Peace proportions on this subject or has fallen asleep while replying.
The People's Hero Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 The FOWOs. I like it. Anything where Beyonce can win multiple awards is a joke anyway. Unless its a being fit contest and even then it would have to be as part of a pretty unspectacular field.
Daggers Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 Awards ceremonies suck, all of them. They are for the conceited and smug ~ talent is its own reward, you don't need a lump of glass to prove it. Some of the comments made fail to appreciate that the USA had segregation until the 1960's and the impact this has had on the national psyche. Moving on from that kind of history is very difficult indeed.
Guest Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 Awards ceremonies suck, all of them. They are for the conceited and smug ~ talent is its own reward, you don't need a lump of glass to prove it. George Clooney, anyone?
