MBK Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 check out championship part of 4thgame.com!! Is he the right player we need?
MBK Posted 12 October 2006 Author Posted 12 October 2006 Keane admitted that out-of-favour striker Andy Welsh could also be heading in the same direction. "As much as I want to keep as many players as I can, I have got to be fair to players, and if it looks like they are not going to get a game over the next month or two, then they should go out and play," said Keane. "Jon Stead has been given permission to speak to a couple of clubs and it looks like Andy Welsh could be going to Leicester, so there are one or two things happening with players."
escape2victory Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Thats good news I think. Rated him when he was here last season. Was it just a coincidence that our form at the back end of last season was related to Welsh being in the team and giving us some decent balance and width in the team ? Personally id send Porter out on loan now, beef him up
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 I thought he was alright to be fair I don't think he would be the best choice up front.
dog_4 Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 welsh was bollox. everyone went on about his pace when he struggled to get past people. rubbish
Babylon Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Personally id send Porter out on loan now, beef him up He's already 6ft wide... he just needs stretching.
Janx Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 welsh was bollox. everyone went on about his pace when he struggled to get past people. rubbish based on which performance, he looked capable when I saw him.
Janx Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 I don't think he would be the best choice up front. we need a midfielder, he plays midfield, well wing actually, but I think he can play inside a bit.
Babylon Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 I don't think he would be the best choice up front. Arrrgh but Kelly on the OS said he wanted to bring in 2 players. Don't see the logic in welsh still though.
Dr The Singh Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Arrrgh but Kelly on the OS said he wanted to bring in 2 players. Don't see the logic in welsh still though. Same here, porter does a reasonable job!!!
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 we need a midfielder, he plays midfield, well wing actually, but I think he can play inside a bit. he's named as a striker on there and Kelly has said thats what he's looking for. I see no point in playing Welsh wide left unless we're dropping Hughes or Johnson and moving Levi inside and thats never going to happen. I haven't seen anything from Welsh to suggest he can play in the middle of the park.
Mark Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 I'm not too thrilled about this either, but at least it's a winger we're bringing in so it will benefit us. Let's just hope any clear cut chances don't fall to him. <_< :pinch:
Joe. Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Well it's not a done deal yet so you never know, but left side of midfield isn't really a problem. It's the middle and right that need working on. <_<

This should have been sorted in the Summer instead of bringing in an army of defenders.
Babylon Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 I thought he was alright if i'm honest. Not great, just alright... if he plays at Levis expense then i'll be miffed.

Fox in a Box Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 By Nick Alexander Roy Keane has revealed that more Sunderland players could follow Rory Delap out of the Stadium of Light. Delap yesterday joined Stoke on a three-month loan with a view to a permanent move to the Britannia Stadium. And Keane, who has changed the look of the Black Cats' squad in his short time at the club, is ready to do business with more of his players. Andy Welsh has been given permission to talk to Leicester about a loan move, while Jon Stead's availability has sparked interest from several clubs. Welsh, a left winger, spent three months at the Walkers Stadium last season, playing 10 games for the Foxes. Keane said: "Those lads have been given permission to talk to clubs so we might have some more news on that. "I'm just trying to be fair to the players. It gives them a chance to go out and get games and get a feel for other clubs, and if something happens beyond that with regards to the moves being permanent then we'll wait and see. http://www.safc.com/news/?page_id=10709 "Initially, it is to get games under their belts because I have a fairly big squad here. I have to be careful and not let too many go out but I am comfortable letting these ones go. "I have got options in attack, to cover for Jon being away if that happens, and it's the same with Welshy because I have got Ross Wallace and Toby Hysen on the left side."
Fox in a Box Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Just reading the sunderland stuff all over its tacked on as hes on his way, but hes only got a 50cc bike so hes taking a little time to get here! should be here tomorrow...................
Ric Flair Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 I thought he was alright if i'm honest. Not great, just alright... if he plays at Levis expense then i'll be miffed. I agree. Welsh was steady and seemed to be more dangerous when coming off the bench. Levi seems to drift in and out of matches, usually havign a great first half and a quiet second half. Perhaps Kelly can use both of them successfully. Tiatto is fairly useless so it's good to have a decent attacking option in midfield on the bench in either Welsh or Porter. Porter for all his trickery and attacking runs hasn't scored or provided many assists is any in his games he's played. He looks promising but I think this isn't as bad as everyone makes out should Welsh come here. As long as Porter still gets a chance!

He drifts out of the game because none of our useless midfield or inept (at passing) defenders passes the ball to him. Low becomes the overiding option because they don't need to look where they're passing it. Any hoofed ball out to the right will do.
potter3 Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Porter can play Right and Centre aswell as left can't he? Perhaps Welsh would come in on the left and Porter play right wing, or be the creative midfielder we need?
