ibbosuk Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 I have just been on the site http://www.soccerbase.com/transfers_by_team.sd?teamid=2049 and have added up the transfers in and out of Portsmouth FC from Seasons 1998/1999 to Seasons 2005/2006 By my maths (not my best subject) it works out to be like this, Transfers in £26,538000 Transfers out £20,555000 So Monies actually spent in these 8 Seasons is ( £ 5,983000 ) Crickey 6 Million in 8 seasons hardly puts Milan Mandaric in the BIG SPENDING LEAGUE ??? I for one thought he had put in much, much, more in to Portsmouth.[ Portsmouth's transfers in 1998/1999 Players in Player From Fee Date Steve Soley Leek £ 30000 23-07-1998 Thomas Thogersen Brondby £ Louise Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 In 05/06 some transfers were made with Gaydamak's money.
Free Falling Foxes Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 I have just been on the site http://www.soccerbase.com/transfers_by_team.sd?teamid=2049 and have added up the transfers in and out of Portsmouth FC from Seasons 1998/1999 to Seasons 2005/2006 By my maths (not my best subject) it works out to be like this, Transfers in £26,538000 Transfers out £20,555000 So Monies actually spent in these 8 Seasons is ( £ 5,983000 ) Crickey 6 Million in 8 seasons hardly puts Milan Mandaric in the BIG SPENDING LEAGUE ??? I for one thought he had put in much, much, more in to Portsmouth. That may be so but look where we are & where Portsmouth are

Louise Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 The ones made in January '06 were probably the work of Gaydamak, so that knocks 4m off your total. However soccerbase isn't the most reliable with these things, all the player that say 'signed' also came in for a fee, they just don't know what it is, I'd also question whether the fees that have got listed are accurate as well.

TBF initially I can see Kelly only getting money anyway for wages. He'll probably have to offload some shit too. ie. Low, Johnson, Maybury etc.... Even just a million or two to spend on transfers would get us out of this division.

Maybe so but it gives a good yard stick as to what we are likely to be given as regards transfer monies.
l444ry Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 Makes his record at Portsmouth even more impressive then. To turn a virtually bankrupt Pompey into a Premier League club on a shoestring is a greater achievement than we first thought. His experience in running a football club is surely the main advantage of getting him here, as he would be replacing the current Board who, although well meaning, are clearly not able to take this club any further.

I can tell you this if Manderic only puts in 6 million quid in the transfers pot over the next 8 seasons we will not be where Portsmouth are!! (THATS FOR SURE!!)
BartonFox Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 But he made all that money available for wages though. Great point l444ry
MBK Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 Mmm hopefully he will invest in good players. That list is big even by Micky Adams standard. So don't want to see a lot of trial and error players coming in. Just real elements to improve the team
Head Honcho Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 All this goes to prove is that he's a good business man and he buys cheap and sells at a profit. He made 3.5 on Crouch alone

He made 3.5 on Crouch alone Money for old rope there then, Allen!!! If Crouch was not playing for a so-called big club he wouldn't get a look in for England. A bit like Emile Heskey's treatment....joins Liverpool and, lo and behold....he becomes an established International. Leaves Liverpool for Birmingham and.....cast into the wilderness.

samcobblin Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 would it be posssible to see our stats from the same period
Daggers Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 I hope he can afford an entire squad of players along with a new manager
Manwell Pablo Posted 25 November 2006 Posted 25 November 2006 As I say he's no Abrmoavic, he's not even a suger daddy, we will still need to spend carefully. All this talk of "Mandarics millions" is plain bollocks. However he knows the game, he's a good business man, he backs his managers with money for players and even more so with the wage budget. You'd think he's worth a bit more now than he was when he bought Portsmouth and I'd our average gate of 21,500 is alot more than Portsmouths was when they were battling relegation to League One.

Thud. That's the sound of that post falling on deaf ears. You're either going to get the kids talking about the play-offs being a certainty after we spend £2million in January or the elderly going on about dozens of foreign mercenaries replacing their favourite youth team players. If you look carefully somewhere in between, you'll find... the truth.

Head Honcho Posted 28 November 2006 Posted 28 November 2006 I can't understand what people expect of MM He's not buying a football club to lose money he's buying one to invest in players and hopefully to sell them on at a profit. He's certainly not going to be anything like Roman Abramovitch, Jack Walker or Jack Hayward. He will attract the type of players to the club that at present we have no chance of signing. Up and coming players who will use the club as a stepping stone to bigger things, also players in the twilight of their career who unlike AJ have still got something to offer.

gatesheadfox Posted 28 November 2006 Posted 28 November 2006 in 8 seasons time could you envisage leicester spending over 26m on players without milan? i'd say the return he has got considering what he spent on players is very impressive as most clubs would make great losses on the resale of most players if they were striving to achieve bigger things
