Subbuteo

My first set included two teams - Dundee United and France. I used to get quite frustrated at the complete ludicrousness of pretending this fixture would ever happen.

Then I bought Newcastle. I had to play Pavel Srnicek in goal instead of Shaka Hislop cos every team had a white keeper - and I couldn't play all their good black players cos there were only about three in the set.

I stepped on both my goals and had to sellotape them up. Regularly snapped my keepers heads off as well.

I don't know what made me put it away one day but I did, aged about 12 probably, thinking I'll get that out again soon.

I never did. It lies in the loft, untouched for a decade, weeping quietly.

Subbuteo is ace.

Have you seen it now with cardboard men! You cannot even buy a full team anymore just star players from Europe. If you have an old set with plastic men then hang on to it.

keep it there fez if its mostly in good condition it will be worth a few bob in a couple of years

mint, except for the sellotaped goals and headless goalies

I bought stands and all sorts for this. God knows where they are now.

My first teams were Argentina and West Germany (yes it was post 1990). I soons bought Leicester, who annoyed me that they were also considered as Cardiff and AN others

Son of a biatch!

The new Leicester team, made in Italy, is ****ing brilliant!

Seriously...go to the shops and hunt one out. Open the lid and marvel at how one of the centre forwards looks like he's eaten the other one and most of the rest of the team are damaged and can't play. You can buy the team for less than a fiver...so realistic it's frightening. lol

I vaguely remeber a blue and a red team, the blue was obviously Leicester and I called the red Liverpool. And did anyone have a brown ball and once think it was a malteser ^_^ Ouch

I was subbuteo mad. All my teams and the pitch are currently in the loft in a tin.

I had leicester aswell, and vaguely remember having norwich and liverpool. I also used to play the FA Cup matches. :o

I have a table in our lounge that has a glass top and 19 sections...I think the aim is for women to put shells and small stones and butterfly wings in them as a nice talking point for coffee mornings.

I have commandeered it - each square is a scene from Subbuteo history. A cup presentation, a hotly disputed penalty, Scots smashing up a goal, a giant over sized man taking a corner, the seventies tracksuits warming up...even down to the Jesus on a bit of metal throw-in. It's taken me hours to inlay the segments of pitch.

Some would say this is a sad past-time...

Some would say I need to get out more...

"Some" need to watch out that Santa doesn't get pissed off and fails to bring them the 'Day-trip to a health spa' they so desire. <_<

Let's have some photographic evidence then! It should be wonderful to behold.

the first team i bought was Ajax, although i always used to kneel on them by mistake. In the end they became the paraolympic team.

I've still got my 8x4 hardboard sheet with the pitch on it, unused for 15 years. :P

I have just sold my 1980's subbuteo collection on Ebay. Managed to get £15 for an Inter Milan team from 1981. I had everything, floodlights, scoreboard, even subbuteo referees and policemen.
