davieG Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 From OS AJ On The Comeback Trail Andy Johnson was back on the City training pitches for the first time today (Monday) following a lengthy absence through injury. The former West Brom midfielder, who made the switch from the Hawthorns to the Walkers Stadium last summer, has been out of action since October with an ankle problem. But following a frustrating time on the sidelines, Johnson was back at Belvoir Drive barking out the orders this morning. Assistant manager Mike Stowell said: "It's a good boost for both Johno and the club - but his banter on the training ground is still rubbish! "He's a voice and a character and it is a big plus to have him back." Johnson went under the surgeon's knife in November, and following a few minor setbacks he is now moving in the right direction. Stowell added: "It's been a frustrating time for him. The operation was a success and they actually found what they were looking for. When you hear those words it just makes you even more eager to get back. "It's been a long road to recovery and he has had one or two little niggles along the way. But he has stuck at it. He's a tough lad. "He's go to get through a couple of weeks on the training pitch now before he can take the next step. But he's not too far away."
Milky Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 perhaps now he will play every game as if it is his last
Simi Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 perhaps now he will play every game as if it is his last I've been hoping for that for a long time !
MC Prussian Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 perhaps now he will play every game as if it is his last ... provide excellent passes, fight for every ball and score a few by the way. *Wakes up*
MBK Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 Damn On the other hand, think positive...you ll never see anyone worse
dandannieldanok Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 On the other hand, think positive...you ll never see anyone worse Well you never know with Leicester, I'm sure we can pluck another Akinbiy/Low/Johnson up from somewhere in the near future It's just the way this club is
RowlattsFox Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 if he jumps straight ahead of williams, weso, tiatto and hughes i will not be very happy
Bluefoxtim Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 Quiccccckkkkkk Get the sniper rifle ready and find a grassy knoll just beyond Belvoir Drive
AyewJoking Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 I'll kneecap him next time I see him in Kwik Save.
Guest Gist Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 He is awful. There should be no place for him in the squad!
Thracian Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 From the sound of all his wisecracking he might be better off on the stage now. Being truthful he sounds a bit of a character and I did think we should sign him - but that was six years ago. We've probably got two choices now if we want to see the best of Johnson - either give him a runner or make the pitch smaller. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if that's his shirt on the internet. They say it's a 70's shirt - but who knows, black and white stripes have looked the same since God invented zebras. I reckon Kelly saw Johnson wearing it on a scouting mission a few months back and thought it was an omen. Johnson was a Baggies hero at one time but by the time Kelly saw him West Brom were so keen to get rid that they dropped the biggest hint they could - and gave Johnson a striped shirt with a Leicester badge, never realising Leicester would apparently take the sign seriously. Being fair Leicester knew Andy Johnson was good and when a secretary was asked to get in touch with him about signing he listened to the terms, couldn't believe his luck, agreed the deal, she posted the forms and Johnno signed pronto. Pity she phoned the wrong Johnson but not to worry. He's clearly improved the atmosphere on the training ground no end and with all that redoubling of efforts, his humour's bound to have been much welcomed. So seriously, good luck to the bloke on his return. Sod the Post Horn Gallop - let's greet him by blasting out "If I Could Turn Back Time" and hope that it spurs him on to give the performance of his later life.
DB11 Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 Well he is still a Foxes player so I hope he does well
Flynny Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 He's been crap so far but he could just pull something out of the bag yet. Unlikely, of course, but you never know,
Maybes Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 Dammit. I had conveniently forget about that gypo who trys to play centre mid . Now he is back
Thracian Posted 8 January 2007 Posted 8 January 2007 He deserves our support. In fact he deserves the same support, sympathy and understanding we give to other signings like Fryatt and Sylla and Kenton and McCarthy. It's not as if he's an Academy kid who can wait a few years for a game. He's big enough he's strong enough he's been there and he's done it. If he can also do the half-time entertainment I'll be well pleased. Besides Mandaric's said he wants "more experience" in the side. Perhaps we should do the job properly and get Mickey Adams back!
Manwell Pablo Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 Oh dear. Manwell, get the claw hammer out again? Not that easy, he's hired Tiatto and O'Grady as his personal body guards after last time.
Wils Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 Not that easy, he's hired Tiatto and O'Grady as his personal body guards after last time. Get them while your at it then.
amitoo Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 actually you never know he might have improved because of his injury, he could be more willing to give a better preformance and help the team out more, he is experienced and he know that if milan's deal goes through he could be one of the players that could be shown the door in jan or even in the summer but for now he is a FOX and foxes never quit..i think he will start playing with more passion and pride for the club..right now we are in a position where we need all the players we can to help us move up the league so i hope he starts doing well for the club.
Wils Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 Hes going to be coming back bigger and better than ever.
Thracian Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 Absolutely. As someone once told me, you can't have too much experience.
renards Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 Whilst his own physical contribution was questionable, he was constantly giving intructions, encouragement and geeing the team up Hopefully a fit Johnson wii be the player we all hoped he would be
