Daggers Posted 12 January 2007 Share Posted 12 January 2007 ...this must be the first consecutive season were we have had a reasonably settled squad... Discuss... Because there's only 14 people left now but they use masks and a selection of stilts to make it look otherwise. If you look closely you'll see that Williams and Stearman aren't real...they're just puppets being operated from above. I can't swear to it - but I think they replaced Hume with a robot too. Graz Posted 12 January 2007 Share Posted 12 January 2007 That's one of the most upsetting things... not only that he shipped all those players out, but so many went for free as well! It's hard to believe that we're still recovering from (or just slowly dying since) Peter Taylor's one season here, 6 years ago! Shows had badly the club was run at that time and has been since really.
shen Posted 12 January 2007 Share Posted 12 January 2007 The ones in bold are the one I think were wastes of money, some of them may not have been bad players but we still paid too much for some people. According to this, we made a profit out of Rowett AND he was a good player... And you could argue that Benji was worth the million with all the crucial goals he scored in the second half of our last promotion season

Janx Posted 12 January 2007 Share Posted 12 January 2007 I think it shows what good business DB/MA did.... in terms of seeing people coming in and going out at no massive loss, the complete opposite of Taylor.... buying Rowett for 3M was a risk but then to get 3.5M back is brilliant business!! Apart from Matty Piper we let a lot of youngsters go on the cheap, but that was JUST when the ar5e fell out of the transfer market and established players were what people wanted, conversely youth is a lot more now and experience unless premiership is not massively valued, a 1M transfer within the championship is big news and usually involves a player with youth on his side. surrifox Posted 12 January 2007 Share Posted 12 January 2007 I think it shows what good business DB/MA did.... this is true but they can be criticised for the way that certain deals were handled and they were certainly paying ridiculous salaries to the likes of Ferdinand Thatcher Walker etc all of whom were allowed to walk for free. Even the likes of Scowcroft and Scimeca (believe they were let go by Adams) should have had a sell on value

potter3 Posted 12 January 2007 Share Posted 12 January 2007 Rowett was a good player and I'd say it's harsh to label him a waste of money. I didn't want to imply that he was a waste - I just woulnd't have paid £3M for him - regardless of what we sold him for. The club also turned down a £12 million bid from Fenerbache. Crazy stuff. Really? I didn't know that, who was manager then?
Geo V Posted 12 January 2007 Share Posted 12 January 2007 The club also turned down a £12 million bid from Fenerbache. Crazy stuff. I cant see how that happened mate! I dont know whats worse. The fact that we used to be able to spend big money and now that we cant spend 3250k on a player or the fact that between certain managers, we managed to waste loads. We got unlucky with certain deals that went wrong also. Matt Jones coming and then having to retire, Dennis Wise having shortman syndrome (Please get relegated Leeds), Peter Taylor listening to that fat twat Jez Moxey and buying Ade Panickbuyi. This thread is proof that we musnt underestimate the importance of scouts and managers who can see things in a player that us mere mortals cant. Thats also why we should wait and see what RK comes up with as he may be a great judge of players. Time to go and cry after seeing that list
Wils Posted 12 January 2007 Share Posted 12 January 2007 Some of the signings on there are completly shocking, the amount of money wasted of Fee's and Wages and nothing back in return,Terrible. Foxed Posted 12 January 2007 Share Posted 12 January 2007 Akinbyi, Davidson, Walker and Scowcroft were our biggest losses. For the value gained from having them on the pitch I'd say the last 3 were money worth wasting, as it were. The first 1-waste of time, waste of space and now proven waste of money. Connolly and Piper were our biggest profits. Can't complain about them.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 12 January 2007 Share Posted 12 January 2007 Taylor didn't get rid of Theo Zagorakis. He was already moving on by the end of O'Neill's last season. We were beating Bradford 3-0 and still O'Neill didn't bring Theo on for one last time at Filbert Street. Not sure why?!

Think you could be right there. Although technically Logan is because he's been up the youth ranks. That's terrible that we don't have at least 1 experienced legend at our club nowadays. <_<

Unfortunately we gave longer deals to players like Mark de Vries and Rab Douglas. Right idea just the quality and passion hasn't been the best from all of the signings and if those things aren't there then players won't become legends in the eyes of the fans. Jonbluefox9 Posted 13 January 2007 Share Posted 13 January 2007 Kisnorbo might. Part of me wants Kisnorbo to become one of those players - sticks around for 10 years, through thick and thin. Or McAuley perhaps. Kisnorbo's a key example of how fans need to see some quality as well as passion before they begin to take players to their hearts. I don't think Kisnorbo will ever forget his first few months at Leicester City. He'll realise that our supporters can turn very quickly and this may cloud the way he looks back on his time with us when it's over. One feature of our recent legends has been the way they love the club and the supporters back. Players like Muzzy Izzet, Neil Lennon, Gerry Taggart, Matty Elliott, Steve Walsh etc talk about their time here fondly and a few have stayed living in the area too! Doesn't mean Kisnorbo can't become a legend in the eyes of City fans further down the line just don't see why he will feel the same kind of fondness towards the club as some of the others mentioned. I think McAuley has the ability just not sure about the character. Something about McAuley makes me think he's here to use us as a stepping stone to better things rather than here to help us get to better places ourself.
